Hi.
I am on this forum to hopefully find some information that can help my wife's health problem. I love her and need to do what I can to help her resolve the problem. Basically her problem is one of pain from about her breast area to just above her belly button. Has been there for about 4-6 months in varying amounts from about a 3 to some days of 10 level.
Has had variety of tests done (scans, mris, blood work, bone biopsy, etc. Etc.). Her primary doctor at this point believes it most likely is some variation of fibromyalgia that she was diagnosed as having before. Another doctor she saw few days ago (followup for ulcerated esophagus problem), basically said might be a chronic pain problem...... Need to pursue pain management/alternative medicine path. Last few days since then she has been in pain, and depressed.
....... This whole thing started with her having giant hives back in march, which finally were resolved when she took prednisone which cleared up the hives but left her bloated, and soon after the pain in her chest-abdomen started...... Never did find the cause of the hives.
Her current list of medicine includes: effexor, nadolol, protonix, ambien, levothyroxine, clonazepam, neurotin and hydrocod for pain. Was taking percaset? Before for pain...... Neither seem to help much. She also just stopped taking diazepam (replaces valium) to help her sleep.

Please give me your input.............
Thx.
Bob

Information & knowledge = power, so use the web to search (via google etc) for information on all the areas you listed & any others also on side effects & effects of using so many meds together as perhaps the problem is even if only in part caused by interractions between some/all of he meds you mentioned??

I assume then that you've checked out fibromyalgia & chronic pain symptoms & causes on the net??

Have you also checked auto-immune diseases?? The things I think of are irritable bowel syndrome (my daughter has this & her pain is often quite high up - not necessarily in the bowel area!!) & thyroid issues??

Also keep a strict record of what your wife eats, does (not merely exercise but also housework e.G washing, hanging out clothes, washing dishes, ironing, making bed etc etc) when she slleeps & for how long also the times & length of times of all these things & then overlay this with information as to when & how severe the pain is. This may all be useless but it is something a dr could ask so it would be useful for that if nothing else but it would in any case tell you if anything was showing up as cause or even just as making it worse.

One other thing just occurred pain & people are sometimes quite bizarre - is your wife stressed (other than about this!!) - aside from the hives did anythng happen just before all this started that may be worrying her (trauma, stressor, anxiety, anything)??

The hives could they have been shingles???? Check this out too.

Sorry i'm saying check this & this & this but it seems the only way.

Good luck

Thx purple.
Linda, my wife, does have an underactive thyroid, takes levothyroxine for it.
Don't believe it is/was shingles........
Her primary doctor believes is some manifestation of fibromyalgia, since she was diagnosed with that before (also had lyme before the fibro).
And yes, I am logging a lot of things.
Stress and moderate to heavy exercise does seem to increase the pain.
Nothing major happened stress wise when all this started, but living with me can be stressful at times, and she has had a few other stressful situations over last couple of years, with some of them continuous for longer periods of time.

Remember trauma/stress etc can come about from things that happened in our past which just surface because of a trigger or just because. Also remember that drs do get it wrong so just because a dr says it's not "x" check "x" etc out for yoursleves & see if they seem to fit.

Good luck
