Q: How Soon Can You Tell If You Are Pregnant?

Hi,
I had sex about a week and a half ago and I am supposed to start my period next wed. I woke up this morning sick and I have felt like I have to pee all morning but when I go to the bathroom, I don't go. Also, my back is hurting, like I have cramps. I am on birth control pills but last month I missed 2 of them, but then I had my period. So I wasn't sure if that could affect this month too. So I was just wondering how soon symptoms start showing. And also, just to know, what happens if I do get pregnant but keep taking my birth control pills because I don't know if I am pregnant.
Thanks for any help!

I don't think you are having symptoms this soon, but it could be a possibility. I think (most likely) its just a hormonal imbalance due to missing the pills. Most of the time it takes at least a couple of weeks, but to be on the safe side wait about a week and take a pregnancy test. Let me know how it goes.

Good luck and best wishes,

Thanks for your advice. I think I just have baby fever and was maybe just being hopeful that it had happened even though I am on the pill. I will still let you know how everything turns out though.
Thanks again!

Jennifer is right however if you continue having back pain I would consult a doctor. This could be a sign of a miscarriage. Dont stress im sure your fine! Keep us updated!

I agree with some of the others....I think it could be a urinary tract infection. I have lots of problems with these! The pain in your back could be a bit of a kidney infection. If you have fever or nausea, I would consult a doctor, because you may need antibiotics. You can try an OTC med called AZO. And drink lots of water or cranberry juice. If that doesn't help within a couple of days, call your doctor and ask what they think! Good luck!

YES...Maybe a UTI (urinary tract infection) get checked and get on antibiotics if it is. But antibiotics affect your birth control pills. So if you're not trying to get pregnant you need to use another form of birth control.
