Q: Hypothyroidism And Recovery

My baby was born two months early and of a low to very low birth weight. She was soon diagnosed as having hypothyroidism and has been taking the proper medication for about a year. Recently though the doctor has said that her thyroid is now completely normal - an uncommon recovery. Great! But they tell me she has to continue her medication, but I am in another country and unable to talk to the doctors for myself.

So my question is: why does she need the hormones now? And she is extremely hyperactive now is this because of the medication? I know the case is unusual to some degree, but if any one has any information, it would be appreciated.
