Q: Reoccuring Hernias

I am 35 year old woman and in the past 5 years I have had 8 hernia's and 5 operations to repair them with no luck ..... I have yet another hernia. I have had umbilical hernia, ingunial hernia's and a femeral hernia is the new one. All my hernias are the result of bowel movenemts. All I seem to be doing is going to the surgeon for repair but never to take a look to see why I keep getting them. Is there anybody else that has had these problems?? Heeeelllllllppppp!!!!!!

Hernia
Hello,

i have experienced this also. In the last 2 years I have had 2 hernia repair surgeries the last one this past july 04. Do you know your family history with hernias? This may very well be hereditary chances are if one of your parents have weak (in my case stomach muscles) you will too. My mom has had her hernia for years and has not taken action to repair it. These as you know can be life threatening. I would say talk to you doctor and tell them your concerns exactly. Keep making appointments and telling your doctor, even switch doctors if they don't address your concerns.

I hope everything works out.

Nelly

Thank you for responding, I have no family history with hernia's. Mine all are from trying to have a bowel movement. I can pin point the exact time they occur so that only adds to the frustration. Ih ave an appointment with yet another surgeon to discuss what to do about my recent hernia. I'm just tired of being cut on at this point

Hi, I know how you feel! I have had 3 surgeries each summer for the last 3 years, and now i have another hernia. Mine are umbilical hernias and are large. These hernias have been all around my navel except at the bottom and total 7. I was cut 1 inch above my navel to 1 inch below, all old mesh was cleaned out and a large sheet of mesh was put in July 9,2008 and now i have another one which appeared in dec. 2008. At one time my obgyn told me it could be a collagen problem. I wish i knew! I recently came across a disease called collagen vascular disease on the internet but i do not have most of these symptoms. Good luck i hope you find a answer.
