Q: Just Found Out I'm Pregnant...

I took one of those pharmacy tests and I got a positive. I haven't had my period in 1 month and i've been having the symptons (morning sickness, etc.) for the past week.

I want to know what I need to do in order to have an abortion. Do I have to go to my gyn doctor? Some other doctor?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you really feel the need to have an abortion, I believe you can go to a planned parenthood center and they will help you out. But have you considered all the other options, and researched what an abortion would entail. Please don't do anything without all the facts.

It depends where you are located -- your best bet would probably be a planned parenthood centre, where they will be able to advise you about your options.

Good luck.

I would just suggest that you should be careful about just looking under "abortion" in the yellow pages, because there are a lot of fake clinics there which are actually run by anti-abortionists or religious organizations, and if you go there they will just try to talk you out of it, not proper counselling, just start telling you horrible things -- and they don't actually provide abortions, they are just fronts. I hope you have someone who you can trust, to talk to and come along to be there for you. Good luck.

Make sure you get some real good advice, dont let anyone pressure you into anything. Check out all the information avalible - dont realy on anyone giving it to you - get both sides of the story that way you will be able to make your own judgement.

Going to the doctor is the first step. They will be able to confirm the pregnancy (make sure the test wasn't a false positive) and a good doctor will be able to discuss *all* of your options with you. Together with your doctor, you should be able to make the best decision for yourself. I must stress that if you start feeling pressured by your doctor to choose one option over another, then you should seek a second opinion from someone who's objective. After the doctor confirms the pregnancy and you still desire an abortion, the planned parenthood should be able to point you in the right direction to obtain one. Other than that, naral is also a good place to start as they will have information for the requirements in your specific state as well as possible links to providers in your area.

Best of luck.
peace,
jenn

Be careful looking under abortion. I went to a clinic yesterday and it was a horrible expierence!! I was told I was going to go to hell for wanting an abortion. Now I dont believe in hell but I was furious and so was my other half. I dont want anyone to ever go through what I went through yesterday! Call planned parenthood like I did, they will give you numbers.
Im also an RN student the crap this woman was telling me was exactly that crap! She used a lot of scare tactics. Make sure you talk to a nurse or doctor who will give you the facts which is exactly what you need so you can make the choice for yourself!
