Q: Seborrhea On the Face: Redness On the Face... Help?

I have been diagnosed with seb. It manifests itself in redness on my face (around my nose and between my eyebrows).

I was given steroid creme but that, I learned, thins the skin. I was then given a yeast fighting creme cleanser that is very expensive. It is called plexion. I was also given a yeast fighting creme called protopic.

These seem to work if I keep using them, but they are too expensive for me to keep up with.

I'm looking for any natural or over the counter medicine/remedies that will do away with this redness on my face.

Thanks.

Seb.
I can't offer an alternative to what you're using but suggest contacting your doctor for something to keep your seb. Under control. Maybe he or she will even have samples to help stretch your budget a bit.

I see my doctor again tomorrow for the same issue so am taking the names of your products. What i'm on now doesn't help at all.

Thanks!

to Susan
Please let me know what your doctor says. I lost my insurance so must wait awhile before I see a dermatologist again.

Steroid Addiction
My doctor feels that most of my skin problems are the result of a too strong (the strongest) steroid lotion that I used on my face (definately not meant for faces) which led to steroid addiction. She gave me samples of protopic and pandel (a mild steroid cream). I've used it for 24 hours and see a significant improvement.

The seborreah is a minor issue that we're barely concentrating on at the moment.

Seborrheic Dermatitis On the Face & Scalp
Hi warmblue,

my boyfriend suffered from sever itchy flacky sclap for over 3 years so I guess I know what you are going through. All the doctors said the condition was caused by seborrheic dermatitis......
In the first 2 days his itchy scalp and dandruff had gone and he has never had an itchy or dandruff covered scalp again. I know that my boyfriend has not not sd on his face but if the doc's said that his scalp problems was caused by sd I think you should try this site.

Hope this helps

In the Same Boat
Red appeared right of the nose first, then left and eyebrows and under sideburns under ears
before that I had dandruff and treated that with nizoral and tgel

the face comes on when I am ill or about to become or when I am tired or drunk too much booze. Also from autumn to winter when the air dries, other season changes and other dry environments

i tried taking multivitamins which I think help, but cant be sure

recently got ill and went to the doctor who has given me some steroid cream but also advised not using petrolium based soaps, only animal or vegetable oil based soaps

i am currently trying this
