I'm Not Alone...
Hi everybody
i'm really amazed because I never thought so many people suffered and felt like me regarding this subject. I'm a portuguese 27 year old woman and I have been having the same problem as all of you. This has started 7 years ago at a period of time when I was under a lot of stress. I know now that this intestinal disorder has to do with our nervous system that is why we have no control over the noises and everything. We may find that your parents suffer from the same problem because sometimes it's hereditary, that's my case. My father has colon irritation which provokes intestinal spams which he can't control. The problem about this is that i'm afraid of being in quiet places, at the cinema when the movie is really calm with a lot of pauses it's horrible, you live in desperation beacuse it's something we can't control. I've discovered that if we have a healthy diet avoiding a lot of carbo-hidrates (potatoes,rices,bread...) it's better especially if you have intestinal or stomach gas problems. I was of course disappointed to find that the noises continued though I was only eating healthy food and being very careful. It's amazing that if you are completely at ease and comfortable it usually doesn't happen or at least the noises are less frequent. I'm still searching for a solution, till then i'll just try to avoid stressful situations and quiet places when i'm "too noisy". Wish you all the best
****mariana

Growling Stomach And Embarassed Me!!!
Hey guys ...U wudnt believe what a relief to know so many people experiencing the same thing that iam....Yes it is very embarassing but have to face it....But I did talk about these abnormal noises emerging from the stomach at various times to my mother and she said to give up milk or any diary products be it icecreams/milk/chocolates etc...Today is the first day I have not drank my usual coffee too...It will take a week to work but then I shall update you if it really worked...For those of you who dont mind trying it can do so and we shall all discuss what results it would bring ...Lets do so with a positive attitude so that we can rule out the lactose intolerant factor rather than jus leanring to live with it without even trying...Cya soon people!!!

Try Pressing Left Side of Lower Stomach
I have a the same problem, although obvious only in a silent room. I'm okay in theatres or other conversation areas.

I have found that the noise occurs often when I try to hold in gas (although it happens other times occasionally). Gas suppression obviously occurs when I am in public places. Thus the condition manifests itself when I am out with others...Which is the time I don't want it to happen.

It feels like air/gas is popping out from my colon area (lower left abdomen, right above pelvic bone), almost like the gas never makes it all the way down. That popping creates the farting sound from my stomach, even though I am not doing so.

One way I have found to stifle the noise (and this is going to sound odd but it works), is to press down on my stomach in the colon area (lower left). It seems to help "hold the air/gas" in and not allow it to randomly pop out. Think of it like plugging a hole where air escapes. I can actually feel the air escaping if I just rest a hand on the area. Sometimes holding it in this way causes it to build up though, and so I try to "strategically" press a little harder on that area when there is other noise around me, then I can force some of the built up air out, at a convenient time (ie not during dead silence).

Also, a little beano or tums before a meeting seems to help a little. Clearing out the colon can be helpful (ie, go #2)

Noisy Stomach
Hey guys! I may have discovered what we have ! It is something called candida albicans. You should look it up and find out more about it. I am currently taking a food supplement called "dida" which contains a high content of cinnamon oil, garli and peppermint it takes up to three weeks to get going but if this doesnt work I am going to try a product called "threelac" which is supposed to work from the first day you use it.Candida is a build up of yeast in your intestines which causes noisy stomachs, bloating, gas, being lathargic, craving sweet foods. If any of this sounds familiar then write in to let me know but all I know is live yogurt, garlic, zinc, vits a,c and e and aloe vera juice are supposed to be good for stomachs so find out more about it before you omit fods from your diet as it could make your stomach worse! I hope this is useful for some of you get back to me if any of this works xxx

Yes yes thats wat I have it started wen I took realy strong antibiotics in september and started off a yeast infection in my stomach. Im taking citricidal drops (contains grapefruit seed extract), acidophilus (friendly bacteria/probiotics for stomach- the same stuff thats in bio live yoghurt but obviously a much larger number of cells and more effective.) ive been put on a specific diet so I cant eat yeast, dairy or sugar for 4 months. Im also taking enteric coated peppermint oil tablets. I recommend ppl get a food intolerance test.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Ok, its official, I have irritable bowel syndrome. After a lot of research I realised I have all the symptoms of it, including stomach rumbles, alternating between diarrhoea and constipation, bloatedness, sometimes a pain in my stomach. Other symptoms are anxiety, depression and anorexia. All me. And gues wat? Lots of different things can cause ibs, inclding yeast infections, ie candida overgrowth etc.. Im relieved cos ibs is extremely common, and turns out women have it more than men. It will come and go thruout ur life if u hav it and will usually happen in stressful situations in life blah blah blah. So go see ur doctors and find out if u have ibs, and I still seriously recommend getting a food intolerance test cos I hapened to hav yeast intolerance.

Ibs
Hello! Rachie I was jus wonderin how you got on cuttin out the yeast? And have you been givin somthin for your ibs? This is drivin me nuts! I want to go to the doctors but you know what its like in quiet waitin rooms. I jus cant find anywhere that does food intolerence tests is it nutritionists?Cos my docs have jus been useless bout this! I feel like they dont know a thing. All I got was a blood test for cows milk and wheat but I knew it was yeast so it was all a waste of time. All I got told was to cut out certain things an reintroduce them a week after to see if the noises would come back.I have jus lost faith in my doctors! Xxxx

My diets getting on ok, I found it hard not eating bread cos I used to eat loads of it but now its ok, I realy struggle with not being able to eat sugar tho, as the yeast feeds on it, and I have strong sugar cravings. However am taking a supplement of chromium which is ment to help stop sugar cravings. I hav anotgher 2 months to go... No I havnt been given anything for ibs I hav an encyclopedia on supplements etc and it talks about ibs, so il jus write down some stuff that it says bout it:
can also be known as nervous indigestion, spastic colitis, mucous colitis and intestinal neurosis.

Symptoms- abdominal pain and discomfort, more frequent bowel movements with pain, or relief of pain with bowel movements, constipation, diarrhea, excessive production of mucus in colon, symptoms of indigestion such as flatulence, nausea, or anorexia, and varying degrees of anxiety or depression. Its extremely common (thank god!).

Dietary and lifestyle recommendations - diet that focuses on whole, unprocessed foods (whole grains, legumes, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds)
eliminate alcohol, caffeine and sugar
identify and control food allergies
get regular excercise
perform a relaxation exercise, eg deep breathing, meditation, prayer.. 10-15mins each day
drink at least 48ounces of water daily

supplements:
vitamin c, 500-1000mg 3x daily
vitamin e, 200-400 international units daily
flaxseed oil, 1-2 tablespoons daily
probiotics, 1-10 billion viable l.Acidolphilus or b.Bifidum cells daily
water-soluble dietary fibre, 3-6grams at night b4 bedtime
enteric-coated peppermint oil, 1 or 2 capsules 20mins b4 meals 3x daily.

Some of u may find that useful if u want to try some of it... I find the peppermint oil tablets and acidophilus are v effective.

As to getting a food intolerance test, look for 'food and environmental intolerance testing' from a food and diet intolerance adviser.
Thats what it says on the front of the leaflet I got frm my adviser.

I went to my doctor with my mum to ask about the noises wen I first had them and he was absolutely rubbish, all he did was feel my stomach and told me to eat more bran flakes. I hav now realised that doesnt help as I get realy bad wind anyway and of course bran flakes cause flatulance.

I really hope we can all eventually sort this out xx

Exact Exact Same Problem
Wow, it feels so much better, to know that there are people out there who know exactly what I am going through. Everybody has described it exact exact exactly as I have been suffering. I have been having this problem really interfere with my school since this school year started. You know what, I think that if everybody tries to find out what they might have in common maybe we can find out first what this triggered it.

If I go back and think I think it was the orbitz , bubble gum that started this. I can remember my stomach feeling crampy everytime I chewed on it. I thought that it was the gas caused by chewing the bubble gum. But I completely stopped chewing it, and though I am a little bit better than last semester it is still a problem. Xylitol kills the bacteria in your mouth? I guess it does something to the useful good bacteria in your intestine too? Last semester I was working with my 2 partners on a project, and I was reading a paper on the internet and suddenly 'it' happened. It was so embarassing. By the time I turned around both of them were looking at me with weird grossed out faces. If it was not the xylitol in the bubble gum, it might be the artificial sweetner that they use- aspartame. I researched xylitol on the internet, and found something that said that xylitol was found to cause gastrointestinal problems in "children that are sensitive " to it. And regarding aspartame, there is a huge debate about its safety. If you just type in aspartame in google, almost every single item in the search says aspartame is bad!!!!!!!!!!!!

This semester I have been drinking a "can" of dole pineapple juice about 15 -20 minutes before I go to class, and it has been helping me. The ones I drink are "not" from concentrate. And the reason for that might be that pineapple has the tendency to relax muscles?? Try it and see if you notice any changes. But I try to use it only on class days, and not when I stay home, because I think that it might wear off too. I also found that lots of sleep helps.

I have been searching for help about my problem since about 7 months. But I never got this close of a match to my problem .I used to type in sounds stomach, I think. Anyway I got here at least now.

Tips
Another thing I have found might be helping me for the last couple of days is pumpkin seeds. I have been munching on pumpking seeds( about a handful, but of course my hand is kind of small ) right before I go to class. I don't know why it works, but pumpkin seeds are a good source of iron, magnesium ,fibre.. Maybe it might be a deficiency that all of us have.

Oh, regarding the pineapple juice and pumpkin seeds I told you about them because if anyone has an exam , or something like that and is really desparate they might help( they have helped me out a couple of times).

But regarding the "actual " cause why, I do not know. I haven't gone to a doctor either. I just searched the internet for candida, and yes it makes a lot of sense. I have not been able to concentrate in classes( even when I don't have this problem) I am restless, have a short attention span and cannot concentrate.(depressed) lots of symptoms match what I have.

Will try to follow the diet they mentioned.

Wen im nervous or really down thats wen my stomach tends to growl but not all the time its just worse wen im worried. Its a viscious circle my stomach growls so much that I worry and because I worry it growls! Iv not been eating anything high in sugar as bad bacteria feast on sugar.Im havin live yogurt and probiotic drinks with no flavourings. Iv been drinkin rice milk instead of normal milk to cut down my dairy.Im drinking lots of water at the moment. The one thing I dont get though is alcohol has lots of yeasts in it but it tends to stop my growling .Dont worry im not an alcoholic or anything its jus wen im out. Im a realy nervous person and I think this is what has brought it on because it all started at exam times wen im most stressed!Wen im relaxed most of the time it goes away. Im going on holiday in june with my frends and I realy hope it goes away! Xxx
