Noises
Hey everyone. I went to Dr. Mark Pimentel's (the author of the book that thumb was recommended) website, and I think that I have these noises because of "post-infectious IBS".

Post-infectious IBS basically means that a person gets IBS because of some sort of gastroenteritis which is caused by some food borne disease
like giardia. Many of us have stated that we have had giardia, and that this problem began once we had giardia, or when be began to take antibiotics like flagyl. I'm not sure what sort of treatment can fix this, but I'm still looking.

Anyways, for an update, I began to take daily multivitamins (which would give me diarrhea in the past) again, and they have helped me with feel a lot better. Also, I have been eating foods with a lot of potassium, like potatoes, and for some reason, I have not had many abdominal noises, especially when lay down in bed, which surprises me.

Anyway, I hope that all of you are able to relax, and not worry about this problem too much. Seriously don't let this thing drive you crazy, when this problem started to me, I got seriously high blood pressure, and at the time I was only 18, so make sure that you put aside some time to relax every day.

Question
Has anyone heard of "Digestive Advantage"?

http://www.irritable-bowel-syndrome.ws/dig estive-advantage.htm

They say that it is proven to help for IBS, i would like to know if i should try it, maybe it will help with these noises.

Also, some people have written that they started to take Metamucil and they were feeling better. I would like to know if it is still helping them because i'm taking it and it doesn't help me too much.

I have had ibs for 6 years now but I thought the noises were seperate from ibs because they started only 2 years ago although my symptoms have changed. Anyways, I recommend going to www.ibsgroup.org and posting there, there is a lot of info there and the bulletin boards are full of friendly people with experience. Noises have been talked about there every now and again.

If it was really a candida infection, then from what I read in the internet, the steps were to:
1) stop the candida growth
2) reintroduce the friendly bacteria
3) meanwhile strengthen the stomach or intestine so it would have the ability to fight for itself

from what I remember step 3) consisted of using multivitamins

Hey,

How many of you have tried using antifungals/anticandida stuff? Whether it be food or medicine?

The reason why I tell you to take antifungals/ anticandida foods etc... is because you need to do steps 1 , 2 AND 3 all together. I read somewhere that if you just take probiotics it will make your situation even worse.

I joined the candidiasis group on yahoo a while ago, and I came across some people saying that they felt better, when they cut a garlic into tiny pieces, and washed it down with water. Garlic is apparently one of the strongest antifungals out there. Even when compared to medicinal antifungals.

I think Rachie mentioned that her Aloe Vera juice was making her feel better. That is an anticandida agent. I also remember her mentioning grapefruit seed extract. Thats anticandida as well.

I tried the raw garlic clove once or twice till now, and it does seemt to work... You know like I said, I can't really tell when I get better, but I can tell when I get worse... How I do it, is chop the garlic into tiny pieces, put it on a spoon, fill my mouth with water and dump the garlic into my mouth and swallow...

I have recently been making myself the following. I put some lemon juice and some salt in some warm water, and keep sipping it, and I feel like it has been helping my stomach relax.

My IBS developed after I took extremely large doses of Vitamin B5 (I was taking 20g a day). I ended up with severe diarrhea for a week even when I stopped taking the vitamin, and even after I got it all out of my system I still had intestinal problems. I'm guessing that overdosing on vitamin B5 really screwed up my system and gave me IBS.

And yes, my stomach growling started when I took flagyl! Even though none of my tests showed that I had giardia, my GP decided to treat me for it anyway. I now wish he hadn't.

I know exactly what you are going through. I had finals last week, and this problem was worse than ever, probably because of the stress. Don't worry after finals you will feel a lot better.

P.S. Good luck with your exams.

Zero Carbs Diet
Hi,
I wanted to post this to let everyone know that I've been having pretty remarkable results with a zero carbs diet. Kind of like The Zone or South Beach diet. I've mostly being eating a banana and yogurt for breakfast and everything else has been just meat and salad or lightly cooked vegetables. No dressing on the salad. I've been having two meals in addition to my breakfast.

I decided to try it about a week ago mostly because I wanted to see if it gives me more energy. It doesn't... I've actually been feeling tired quite a bit of the time, but the interesting side effect is that all of the bloating and gas I had been getting that was normally a precursor to these noises seems to have disappeared. It's only been a week so I'm not celebrating yet, but I'm convinced that starchy foods such as bread, rice and potatoes are what my body was having difficulty digesting.

For the last two years it seemed that I was bloated after almost every meal, but now I feel that my body is working much harder at digestion and everything seems to be much smoother. I have less energy, but it hasn't stopped me from running 18 miles this week and working out in the gym a couple of times.

I'm not sure if I'll stay on this diet but I am becoming convinced that severely reducing the amount of starchy carbs that I eat is opening a door to a solution for me!!

have you ever been tested for Helicobcobacter Pylori? This is bacteria that casuses, intenste hunger pains, stabbing pains like a knive gouging you and multiple stomach problems-gas and intestinal priblems. Had the endoscopy and was doagnosed with thei bacteria, went a rounfd of the presc. antibiotics and am free of this bacteria. on Prevacid now and an occasional pepcid, but doing so very much better. As dor carbs or proteins......its getting hte body in balance, and I definatly tust Tree pf Life probiotics! Its called Primal Defense and its has done wonders for my system!

has anyone considered being tested for Social Anxiety? I know it has been discussed here in relation to stress, etc. But I'm wondering if it's our stomachs causing the anxiety, or our anxiety causing our health issues.

and if maybe treatments for the Anxiety are the key for the rest of the symptoms? Some have mentioned beta blockers which I hear are good for physical health as well as mental. I"m not sure.

Either way, my instestines have felt strange lately, like I can feel them move if I place my hand over them, and not normal movement, like they will jump around or something completely unrelated to digestion. Not sure. Anything similar?

Noisy Abdomen
Hi All,

I wish I had an answer for the grumbling tummy, but unfortuantely ,I don't. Although I have taken a skin and blood test and found that I'm mildly allergic to wheat, peanuts, shellfish, and citrus. I'm trying to eliminate these foods from my diet, but as everyone knows there are hidden ingredients.

I'm currently taking a probiotic called, Healty Trinity from Natren. It's very expensive and I've heard it's supposed to be the best probiotic that REALLY WORKS! We will see. I've only been taken it for about 2 weeks. I haven't seen much change, YET. I'm also taking Colostrum by NOW.

Also, in my case, I do feel flutters from my intestines along with the noises. It feels like something is moving around at times. I really don't feel that mine is stress related, because it growls when I'm relaxed. I also, don't feel that it's IBS.

I will continue to check in on this thread and if I find a solution, I will be the first to shout it to the world.

Some Things Helped Me
I have also had stomach noises for about 3 years now. I am in my last semester of college and I feel like the noises have turned me into a certified crazy person. It has given me anxiety and insecurities. I am happy in other aspects of life except quiet rooms. Wouldn't it be nice if schools played some classical music in the classrooms or something?? Just a little white noise to help all of us that have stomach issues.

I agree with the person who is on a low-carb diet, that has helped my noises as well. However, I love food and I don't think that the stomach noises should dictate what I eat all the time. So rather than always eating no carb, I try to avoid carbs the night before class and will only eat no carb foods before class (like sliced turkey, ham or chicken).

The downside of eating no carbs for me is that it's hard to stay full and then I risk the chance of my stomach making noises from hunger! So now I bring some of the deli meats to class with me. It is embarrassing to try and eat sliced meats in class but it is better than stomach noises.

Although I have figured out some things that help me, I feel like it is really just a crap shoot (no pun intended) because sometimes no matter what I do my stomach grumbles and groans anyway. Do any other girls feel that there stomach is MUCH worse during their period? I skip class all that week usually.

I am depressed from this problem because I don't want to quit school but I don't want to attend school either for fear of being mortified. Another thing I have done this semester is apply to the disability resource center for testing accomodations. I had my therapist diagnose me with "anxiety disorder due to a general medical condition" and now I get to take tests in a quiet room by myself. I still have the problem of attending lectures (and the prof gives pop quizzes), but atleast I don't have to stress about the tests.

Thanks for listening, this problem is hard to talk about with people who don't understand. This week I am going to see a hypnotherapist to see if she can get the idea of stomach noises out of my head to decrease anxiety. I hope it helps!!

There Is Hope
I haven't had loud grumbling noises for around 6 months. Prior to that I had constant noises/anxiety for 2 years. Like many of you, I changed my diet and made an effort to relax, but I also battled with anxiety and depression. I started taking Zoloft in January and since then the anxiety and depression I constantly lived with slowly reduced. My bowels calmed down too, thank god. From my own experience, the main cause of noisy abdomen is anxiety & diet. There's an emotional component to every illness.

ground flaxseed every morning 50 mg zoloft = a content woman

I hope everyone finds their own cure.

PEACE

I absolutely agree about the flaxseed. It has been helping a lot.

By the way, have any of you looked into Leaky Gut Syndrome?

Lately I've been thinking... and I think the root of our problem might be Leaky Gut Syndrome. Leaky Gut Syndrome is where the lining of the gut becomes permeable, and this can cause various other symptoms.

Apparently, if candidiasis becomes fairly severe, the roots of the yeast penetrate the intestine or gut ( whatever ), and can cause the lining to become permeable.

I guess thats why when I try keeping my candidiasis under control, I feel like things aren't getting worse, but at the same time things aren't really that better, because its not addressing the actual cause.

And apparently flaxseed helps rebuild the lining of the gut. And after reading about several people saying that flaxseed helps, I too have tried it and do agree that it, has been working.

Another thing that I am guessing is that sour, acidic, foods, like citrus, can weaken the intestinal walls, and thats why even though they address the candida they make the condition worse. I think someone previously mentioned that their doctors advised them not to eat citrus items.

And, I also read somewhere, about fiber, and corn items being good for leaky gut syndrome, because they sweep the intestinal walls and get rid of everything accumulated there. And some time ago, we also thought that corn items, like nachos were helping ... So that too fits.

Another thing I read was that Leaky Gut Syndrome is also rarely diagnosed...

So, that means that there are probably 2 things that need to be addressed. 1) Candidiasis 2) Leaky Gut Syndrome ... Candidiasis needs to be controlled so that the Leaky Gut Syndrome doesn't get worse, and then the Leaky Gut Syndrome needs to be addressed. 1 - for this I guess the diet would do, and 2 - guess flaxseed would be enough... ( at least for now )...

Allergy Skin Testing
Just curious to know if anyone has had an allergy skin test or food blood test to see if they are allergic to different foods. I've done both and I tested positive for citrus, peanuts, shellfish, and wheat. They were mild positives, but I've noticed that once I limited these items my stomach noises have calmed down, but they are not completely gone. Also, I noticed that if I eat one of these items, I may or may not get the noises. go figure. At times, I think it's related to food, but then again, I still have the noises when I don't eat any of them. So maybe, I'm allergic to something else? I don't know. All I know is that it's making my life miserable. Especially, since I work in a quiet area, and NOBODY but Me have these embarrassing noises.

Anyway, If I find something that works, I will definately post ASAP. We shouldn't have to deal with this embarrassing problem that NO ONE seems to understand, not even the doctors.

Yes, I get the growlings as well. Sometimes, popping/bursting/cracking sounds from my stomach... A while ago, somebody mentioned a certain number of sounds from their stomach and even described them. They were exactly the kind of sounds that I get.

In my case I've noticed that when I eat something sour, it triggers the sounds. The same with sugar and yeast... They trigger the sounds...

When I eat something with flaxseed, or something with fiber, it actually postpones and reduces the sounds...

Helpful Things
Nothing can stop it when I'm nervous, but otherwise, I think anti gas pills help a tiny bit. And for me, personally, anti heartburn helps. What is really helpful is putting my hand on the side of my stomach where the problem is. The heat relaxes it a bit
