Hey guys, i've been following up on this forum for a while, and I know everyone has been tryign just about everything and whatnot, but the one thing that is workig best for me is staying away from dairy, like milk and cheese especially. I think i'm slightly intolerant to foods like those and i've gotten a lot better from avoiding them. It is worth trying if some of the other things arn't working... Also, some of the supplements that other people are trying have worked for me as well. I'm still waiting to go to the doctor to ask them about some of the drugs people have mentioned, and i'm still on antibiotics, but keeping away from the milk and sugars and things that just generally look like they would bother you is at least a good start...

Noisy Stomachs - Has Anyone Else Tried This One?
For years I have been noticing the gumbling from my stomach getting worse and louder, plus I fart all the time which I never used to. I have tried nearly everything medical to sort this out, everything herbal and all sorts of exercise plans. I've cut out food groups and all sorts and some makes a difference (for me this means pasta, anything with soya and tomatoes) but it still doesn't solve the problem. I just wondered if anyone else who suffers drinks alot of water? This may sound odd as I know water is supposed to be very good for you, and I drink highly filtered water that is almost as pure as spring water, however i'm wondering if this is making a difference? I don't drink tea/coffee or carbonated drinks - just water (and alcohol about twice a week). When I drink water though that's when the grumbling starts. Plus I sit down alot for my job - between 7-8 hours a day I am sat at my desk constricting my stomach. Anyone got any comments/views on water making a difference?

My grumbling stomach is also getting progressively worse. I drink alot of water when I take fibre and that makes my stomach gurgle somewhat but the noises are still there if I don't drink alot of water (after food and when laying on my back). I'm still trying to find a solution.

I drink a lot of water, or I at least try. It doesn't bother me... Maybe you should try drinking tea? Some of it may help -
i've cut dairy mostly out of my diet and it has made a huge difference. I've been able to sit through my classes so far just fine (except when my stomach rumbles from being hungry haha). I use the accillodiphilus tablets, I use flaxseed/fish oil which are great for you, and the peppermint tablets, and also the aloe vera juice rachie mentioned way back. I'm really very happy with the results, I have to be careful still with alcohol as that is bound to upset any stomach with whatevr problem we have.
I've tried the dannon active... Really yummy haha, but the dairy in them was upsetting me so I had to cut them out. I'm still looking for an entire cure, but so far my diet has been working for me enough that I don't have to worry about classes and stuff.

Cramps
Does anyone else get a feeling of discomfort or cramping in the abdomen that goes along with these noises? It seems like I frequently get what seems like a cramped muscular feeling around the part of the body where I believe the stomach leads into the intestines(bottom of the rib cage). I dont' know if this is trapped gas, or an actual cramp or something else. I mostly get this feeling on the left side of my body, but my doctor has checked it out and doesn't think it's anything serious.

Anyway, I would be interested in hearing if anyone else feels the same sensation.

Yeah, I get that also. My stomach hurts a lot, and also in the same spot that you mentioned, and i've been feeling naseaus a bit lately. Left side also... Went to the doctor, don't think she really got what I was saying. She kind of put words into my mouth to fit what she wanted. So... I'm still stuck with all this, don't know what to do. Has anyone else been seeing doctors? What have they said?

Global Problem
Hi everyone!!

I'm very glad I found this forum, I knew I wasnt the only one with this problem so it's great we can share advices with each other.
Anyway, i've had this for some years now, it's not as bad as what some of you have but it still limiting my life. (i'm swedish by the way, so I apologize my poor english)
I also thought at first that this sounds had something to do with my eating disorders and it probably has sine starving and binge eating, throwing up and so on hurt the bowel system but I also think that this is a co mmon symptom for a lot of different kind of stomach problems - which means a lot of different cures

normally I get this sounds before lunch and sometimes in the afternoon-...I dont have to be hungry but it gets worse if I ate really less the previous day. Well before I go to classes I always eat as much as I can which doesn't feel all that good since im still a bit obsessed with my weight. I even bring snacks some time to eat between classes. Now im doing internship at an international institution and I sit by a computer all day long with my supervisor in the next room. I'm constantly eating some kind of snacks because my stomach sounds can be heard from my supervisors's room.. And it even went that far that I skipped something I really looked forward too for so long just because my stomach made sounds in a quiet room (it was reaaaal bad).
I want to try this pepto bismol, though I dont know if I can buy it in sweden.

Well well here are my tips:
* make sure to eat regulary, dont skip meals

* I always eat porridge with extra fiber in the morning and bring knäckebröd (swedish crisp bread) to eat, it calms your belly

* I heard peppermint tea is good, tried it but I dont know if it helped

* ginger tea should be good

* try to sit close to the exit or in the back of a room and end of a row.

* I always bring a sweater or something to have in my lap, pressed against my belly ...It takes away some of the sounds

* ..And as everyone else in here has noticed, the more you think abt it the worse it gets

* breath in and out when you feel the sounds are coming

* don't eat or drink too much food with aspartam ore any other artificial sweeteners in it

please, I would like more advices..Something that really works, because it's really a pain this thing.

I'm a new member of this forum so I hope you guys can help me with my problem:

like most of you here, I have problems with my stomache also. I usually eat breakfast at about 7:30 and then eat lunch at 12:15. This has never been a problem to me until this summer. I don't know why when i'm back to school, I can get hungry really early and my stomache starts growling (usually starts at 11:30 while i'm in my brit lit class). I feel really uncomfortable although no one except for the friend sitting next to me can actually hear it.

So the problem doesn't end there. Last week, I asked my friend about this problem and she told me she used to have it too. But then she tried to control her meals and used maalox so now she's fine.

Well, because I thought maalox might work for me as well so I bought the kind of chewable maalox which reduces acid and anti-gas. I chew two tablets yesterday and my stomache became worse. This afternoon, after I ate lunch, my stomach started growling really loudly (this is weird cuz it never growls when i'm full before!). I'm really worried now. I'm afraid that I have worsened my stomache by using maalox. Anyone has tried this medicine before? Did it work for ya?

Acids
Hi there,
just read an old reply on this forum abt stomach acids. The problem we have can be a result of high or low stomach acids and if you have low stomach acids you get the growlings just after you ate, if you have low stomach acids you get it some hrs after u've eaten and when you're hungry. So, I think "roamer" for example has high stomach acids and should try a bit baking soda in water, that s what I will do because I sit at work with a roaring stomach drinking pepperminth tea which doesnt work at all.

Hey... Well here's the thing. Is it your stomach growling, or is it like your intestines and stuff. There is a difference! Lol. My stomach will hurt sometimes, but the problem I have most is the rumbling noises in my intestines, drives me crazy! Makes me avoid quiet situations and all Sad . I use maalox a decent amount and it really helps me. In the morning, I get up bout 2 and a half hours before class (mostly because I have to be at school early to get parking), but I take my probiotics/aloe vera juice/peppermint tablets and if I feel like my stomach/intestines might act up, I take maalox bout an hour or so before class. Which, I feel does a lot at least for a while. I can't figure out whats triggering it all though. When I eat creamed spinach though for dinner at night my stomach and all really seems to do okay the next day... So.. Thats another thing that helps me. I'm going to try some things that a woman I wrote to recommended to me. Her problem isn't exactly the same, but we share symptoms. So.. If I can try those out maybe they will also help.

I'm not eating beans and gassy stuff anymore. My intestinal gas reduces a lot. However, my stomach still growls like crazy when i'm hungry (usually 4 hours after I eat) and this is driving my crazy.

Oh also, my stomach makes some noise right after I eat. This is so weird.

I dont understand why most of us never had this problem before but out of a sudden it comes from nowhere and starts ruining our normal lives. (the problem might sound funny to those who have never suffered from it but it's actually not a simple problem at all)

Thank Goodness...
I know everyone says this, but i'm so glad i'm not the only one. How terrible is it to hate school so badly mostly because your intestines make loud noises? I hate it so much!!

For example, today I came home from school because I was "sick" because I have this writing class and every time I have it I get nervous about making these sounds and I do which makes me even more nervous.

Today I was taking a quiz and, lo and behold! I got gas and my stomach started having those "inner farts." it was so emabrrassing! I ended up failing the quiz probably because I couldnt concentrate on the quiz, but my stupid stomach. What is gunna happen when I got to college next year???

This affects my social life too...Any time someone asks me to go to the movies or over to their house to watch a movie I want to go so bad bc it would be fun, but then I always think of these stupid noises I always make and I make up any reason not to go. And what happens when I go to college and start going on dates and stuff? I'll get nervous and the guy will think i'm a freak because I have to fart all the time.

It sucks because I know there isn't a cure...But at least I know there are other people with this. Oddly enough, though, none of them are in my school. It seems that I am the only one i've ever heard give off loud rumbling noises in my school. **sigh** it's sad...I'm really not enjoying life right now and the main reason is this...

Glad I found this forum, i'm 21 now, started while I was in high school...Pretty embarrassing, hated school because of this...Now college. Couldn't concentrate on my work...Could have done better. Yeah, someone should make a site on this...Or a doctor should check out this forum. It only happens when in a quiet place..Yeah must be psychological. I just realized when I lay down before bed on my stomach or side it also happens. I'm going to try those diets. I always chewed on some candy or chips to try to relax..Someone in one my classes said you're always munching on something. I wonder if many of us are skinny or if we come in all shapes and sizes. I was thinking maybe I need to gain more weight or something.

Still haven't found a solution. I'm just skipping lectures all the time and always trying to be in loud situations. This is a joke. Anyways, I wanted to ask, does anyone else get constipated. I find I started to get constipated everyday all of sudden and the noises started around that time.

Hey anth,

have you tried avoiding all forms of sugar and yeast. You should also avoid all fruits and fruit juices... And all baked foods, breads, etc.

For me they are triggering the symptoms.

Have you started taking probiotics? Or at least some form of friendly bacteria such as plain yogurt... ( plain, not fruit: stay away from sugar, well at least until you get your symptoms under control )

( I think that you should stay away from fruits and fruit juices for 2 weeks. Or was it a month? Don't rememember. )

and you should also try to include the following stuff in your diet: garlic, onions, lemon. I'm not saying that you have to eat them raw, but try to find ways of including them in your diet. For example, you could make fresh salsa at home, by cutting some onions, tomatoes, adding fresh lemon juice, add salt and pepper... Or, if you could go to an indian restaurant, try ordering curries such as palak paneer, ...They have lots and lots of garlic ( fresh ) in them, and it helps in detoxification...

Why don't you try listing what you have been eating everyday, and maybe we might be able to point out anything that seems questionable.

Well, regarding me, I feel okay for a couple of days, and then again the problem starts. I am now quite convinced that it is the diet. I need to avoid all forms of sugar, juices, and sources of yeast. I need to get some form of probiotics, like plain yogurt ( regularly, at least once a day ), cannot skip meals ( if I do, the symptoms start again )... And need to keep my stress under limits...

Hope this helps.... And write back if any of this seems to be working...

Mine also comes in sessions lately.... Something usually happens at least once a day, whether its my upper stomach doing something, or my intestines or whatnot rumbling and such.... I havn't been able to pinpoint what's causing it.. Except that I do know that spinach and things like brocoli and cauliflower don't exacerbate it, rather I never have much of a problem when I eat those. The other day though, druring an exam so of course it was quiet, my intestines made the loudest squeaking noise at least two or three times, by the end of the test I just bubbled in whatever and left
i can't pinpoint what's causing it. I've changed my entire diet healthier and it apparantly hasn't helped as much as i've thought...

Stop the Growling
Hi,

i hope people are still reading this thread. I've had the growling abdomen problem for almost 1 year and it screwed up my worklife. It escalated my anxiety levels which made the growling much worse. After a lot of trial and error with foods and appointments with natural doctors, i've discovered ways to reduce the loud noises and the accompanying anxiety.
Now, the only time my stomach really rumbles is when I lie down before I go to bed. Does anyone have a solution for that?

My tips...

Do not eat:
1. All fruit & raw veggies
2. Fruit juices, soda, anything cointaining sugar or carbonate
3. Coffee, caffeine, chocolate (if you need a stimulant drink yerba mate, an herbal tea)
4. Bread with yeast
5. Beans
6. Tomatoes, tomato sauce, ketchup
7. Aspartame
8. Refined sugar
9. French fries
10. Pasta

do eat:
1. Protein: chicken, fish, cheese (it's ok for me)
2. Acidophilus
3. Omega 3 fish oils
4. Oatmeal
5. Drink peppermint tea after meals
6. Eat a snack between meals to reduce hunger growling: pumpkin & sunflower seeds, granola bars with low amt. Of sugar

to manage or eliminate anxiety, try eft: www.Emofree.Com
it's based on tapping on accupressure points of the body while saying specific phrases. I know it sounds odd, but it really works. It's way more effective than anti-anxiety meds.

I hope this helps some of you out there. If I tell anyone about this problem, especially md's, they laugh.

If anyone has any more remedies, please share them.

Embarrassing Noises
I've have this same exact problem.......Mine started about 3 years ago when I was in 9th grade, most embarrassing and stressful moments of my life, so far. Read in before first period was always the worst....It always seemed to happen when the room was silent, I remember making excuses to leave, moving around things in my bookbag to make noise to cover it up, or even being late to school just to skip read in....These were by far the worst times of my life....The beginning of this year I was fed up with being nervous about going to class and went to the doctor to see what it was...He said it was some sort of bowel movement and stuck me on some pills to help....They helped a little but what I think helps the most is trying not to think about it....Next time this happens to you, just take a few deep breaths and clear it from your mind....Also what you eat is a big factor too but most of all thinking about it all the time and being really nervous is the majority of the problem......This has helped me, but I still have them every once in a while....
