Q: Pelvic Exam/pap Test Question

Hi,

i'm about to go for my first pelvic exam in about a week, and I have a couple of questions. First, will a pap test make you bleed? And second, will I hurt after it's finished? I mean, will I be able to carry on like normal after it's all done, or will I be in pain for a day or so afterwards?

Thanks!

Sometimes I bleed just a tiny bit- like a couple drops. Sometimes it hurts a little during the exam but right after the exam mine always goes away and I can carry on like a normal day. As gross as it sounds- most of the time when I go it is on my lunch hour.

Thanks for the replies!

Kitty2luv - nope, i'm not a virgin...I'm just going for my yearly exam, so there's no special reason or problem that might cause me to bleed. I haven't had one before because I wasn't sexually active the last time I went in for a checkup, so they didn't see it necessary to put me through it. My main reason for asking is that i'm going away to see my boyfriend the next day, and I don't particularly want to be bleeding all over the place or in a lot of pain. If this is a possibility, then I was going to move the appointment up a couple of days to make sure i'd be ok.

I think you would be fine by the next day. I would be, but I guess everyone is different. Goodluck.

I've never had pain that lasted after the exam, but I did bleed when I had my first one. I think that was more the doctor than the test, though. She was in a hurry, and wasn't paying much attention.

Good luck!!

I have never bled for a pap smear test and the pain has never lasted longer than the test. Some women spot, some don't, but I have never heard of anyone actually bleeding after. I think you should be fine. :p
