I would get one if I were you! I think it would make me feel more secure about giving birth.
So what is a doula, and how do I find one?
Most doulas are certified childbirth assistants and have coached hundreds of women through labor and delivery. Their fees typically include the delivery, as well as preparatory and follow-up visits. You can also ask your childbirth instructor, your doctor, or friends for a referral.

I wanted one, but then I can't afford one but I would really love the comfort of having someone there with me trying to help me get through the labor.

I know how you feel. I'm livin off of medicaid right now. But suprisingly it covers birth centers. I dont want to have the baby in a hospital. A birth center is much more personal. You really get to know your midwife before you give birth. They are much more likely than a hospital to respect your birthing wishes. Plus i'm really looking forward to a water birth. You should look into it, especially if you like the idea of having a doula. I think its the next best thing!

Does waterbirth give you epi's? Lol 'cuz then if so i'd have one it looks like fun, haha. Sorry, i'm hyper. But yeah, im living off medicaid, too, lol. Oh I always wondered, and I hope this doesnt sound stupid - so please no one critisize me for this, lol, but doesnt the baby drown in the water!?
no, your baby won't drown under water. They aren't underwater that long anyways. Plus, the baby is surrounded by all the fluids while in your tummy.

No its really natural for the baby. A baby will not take its first breath of air until its triggered to do so by a change in temperature, so it is basically programmed to not breath until cool air hits its body, like when yuo pull it out of the water... Its less shocking for the baby. Plus the warm water relaxes you and helps with teh pain of contractions. Its supposed to be really nice, plusif you dont want the baby to be born in th ewater you can always just use the bath for labor
by "epi's" do you mean epidural?

I watched this one "amzing births" on tv once. And this lady wanted to have a natural water birth, in the ocean, on a deserted island. And she did! She just had a doctor come with her and stay away, bur within yelling distance just incase something went wrong. It was weird.

That is kind of a cool idea, but the part of about staying away from her is freaky. Lol.

She claims her son is more "calm" because he was born from salty fluids into salt water.

I dunno, I dont know them..Lol - I just saw them on tv. But the little boy had really long hair! He looked like a girl.
It was a reinactment and then they had the actual little boy on the show and he as like, 9.

If the first breath is triggered by a change in temp, wouldn't he have breathed when he hit the cold ocean water??

I dunno, I just watched the show! Lol, I have no idea...They were in one of those weird little areas where its almsot completely blocked off from the rest of the ocean, and it was shallow. I dont know if that would make a difference.
