10yr Old With High Blood Pressure?? Posted: 10-10-03 12:49pm
My 10yr old daughter just had her physical
and the doctor said she has high blood
pressure..She's not over weight, infact
she's under and eats pretty
healthy.....Doesn't like cheese, eggs,
sweet stuff and drinks low-fat milk...So,
I can't even change her diet...What can I
do? Does anyone out there have a similar
situation.....................Concerned

High Bp In Child Posted: 10-10-03 14:52pm
Hi,
your post caught my eye because of some
blood pressure problems that affect myself
and family. What did the doctor say about
the high blood pressure. It is not normal
for a child to have an elevated bp. Did
your Dr. Suggest any tests? Does your
child have other symptoms? There is an
adrenal tumor which causes high blood
pressure in children called a
pheochromoctyoma. It can be found
anywhere in the body, but usually it is
found on the adrenal glands. I am a
mother of 2 and I would be concerned too
if someone told me my child's bp was
elevated. High bp in children is usually
caused by another medical problem:
secondary hypertension instead of primary.
I would research everything I could find
on pediatric blood pressure. Good luck!
I wish you the best.
