Well, when I was pregnant with my daughter I used to get so out of breath it was scary. I was told that it was just because my daughter was on my diaghram. I have now given birth and my daughter is 7 months. I didn't have any problems until one day when she was about a month old. I went outside to smoke a ciggerette and all of a sudden I began hyperventalating or something. Ever since I walk around trying to take deep breathes. Sometimes I can and other times I feel like I am suffecating. I also have bad sinuses so I am wondering if that could be why. I have been to a doctor and he said my lungs were clear and I was fine. I was also in the hospital and he also said I was fine. Then one day I went to a doctor and he said I had asthma. Then another one said I didn't. Then I just recentally went to another doctor who gave me a test where I breathed into a tube. Then I took some type of asthma medicine and breathed into the tube again. It went up 7%. I dont know if it only went up because I was more calm or what. My lungs are still clear and I really don't know if I wheeze or not. I have never heard anyone wheeze before. I cough very rarley, and everyone coughs. I was prescribed an advair diskus, but I have not been taking it. I am really concerned. Can someone please give me advice??!?! Do you have to wheeze and cough in order to be asthmatic?? Can your lungs be clear and still have asthma???? Please respond. Even if you can im me at xfallenbelowx, I would really appreciate it.

Wow, my asthma has been terrible lately also. I walk up the stairs and have to stop because I get so winded. I take the pill, singulair every day and I have been taking my albuterol inhaler about 8 times from 5am to 11pm every day. I really don't think you should be smoking. I know it's hard to quit, but smoke is the worst trigger for my asthma. Asthma is basically when you're throat closes shut, preventing enough oxygen from getting to your lungs. It doesn't have anything to do with if your lungs are clear or not. About a month ago, mine was so bad, nothing would open my throat, so they gave me steriods. Good luck

Asthma Or Allergy
You are describing what I feel like I have been living for the last several years after the birth of my 3rd child. I have been diagosed with allergies to dust, mold and 4 food allergies. I am in the process of obstaining from these things to see if my breathing improves on a regular basis. I was always told my lungs were clear as well. At some point a doc put me on an albuterol inhaler, after using it I coughed up thick mucus. It appears this mucus blocks the bronchi from doing their job and gives that bronchitis feeling of short breathing. I now get recurrent bronchitis and sinus infections. Good luck, hopefully you are feeling better now. Mo

Hi gabi,

have you ever considered that you may be having mild panic attacks/anxiety? I used to discount this theory completely for myself until one day after major surgery, I made a trip to er and there was nothing wrong with me. I am managing now with a program (pilates) to increase my flexibility and strengthen my lungs. I am also beginning a workout program with weights and swimming to combat my stress. Asthma worsens for most of us when we're stressed out. Many aspects of asthma remain a mystery, but being true to yourself by exploring every possibility and quitting smoking should greatly improve your health. I used to smoke and quitting was the best thing I ever did. My lungs are actually more sensitive now, but that is a sign that they are alive and working to clear foreign particles away. I am beginning singulair today and i'll let you know how it works. It is for allergies and asthma because they are so intimately connected. However, you may not realize a big difference if your asthma is purely stress or exercise induced.

Explore your options, keep an open mind, and most importantly, have a good honest talk with a health care professional. Like I said, I ignored my anxiety thinking I had a heart problem in the beginning and I don't. I am completely healthy with the exception of my allergies/asthma.

I wish you well my dear.
