copd
Hello all, I have just been told I have copd to, I got divorced and now have no insurance and cannot work and have a house i have been trying to sell and repairs to it needed, and trying to quit smoking to, haha, I did good for 3 mos and just this week smoked a pack. I told my children and I am going to stop for a longer time, but it is soooo hard. I know u all know that to, i have tried the pills from the doctor they just made me feel weird, cannot take them, the ones on tv i had used 3 different time and guess what (no good) I have tried the patches and gum and now I am going with the lozengers and will. Will works the best for me, i started feeling better, maybe with the spiriva I can feel better quicker and get busy. Do u all have trouble going upstairs or is that just my problem, it kills me to go up my stairs, I cannot breathe and I have to hit the nebulizer quick. Has anyone else tried the spiriva and what were there results?

My doctor told me and told me that I was going to get emphysema if I didn't quit smoking. Well, I tried and tried but never could. Then one day I just couldn't breath well and was diagnosed with emphysema and that did it, almost. I worked very hard trying to quit and knowing I would have a bad life if I didn't stop. I found a product(prescription only)that has a plastic stem, like a cigarillo and capsule-like devices that you put on it. I cannot remember the name. But, it has nicotine in it and you can puff away(even in non-smoking areas) and you get a nicotine kick. And, after a few months I did quit and if I ever wanted a cigarette I just got out my handy-dandy puffer and took a few tokes. Then I was ok. I haven't smoked for 5-6 years, maybe more. BUT, I still had emphysema and the worst thing about it is you never ever don't. It is a progressive illness and it has changed my life. I don't want cigarettes now at all but I have very severe breathing problems. I am on oxygen now and have to have help with lots of things. My life is based on whether I can breath when I do anything. It is a horrible way to live and it takes lots of positive thinking to get through the day. I was always very active and now I can't even work in my small garden without having breathing problems. I am one of those people who now say I wished I had never smoked. Too late now. I will die from this disease or because of it. I understand how hard it is to quit but please do it. This is a disease, I promise you, you wouldn't wish on anybody. Keep the faith and stop smoking as soon as you can.
