Hi. My mom has been detected with colon cancer. She has just undergo an operation to remove the tumor from her intestines. Doctor said that her case is a duke 'c', eventhough it has not spread to her lymp nodes however, doctor said that the fact it has been spread from her big intestines to her small intestines. However, now me and my family is at a dilemma of whether to let my mom to take chemotherapy or alternatives medication. This is because, from what we know chemotherapy will make the patient very weak and prone to infections and disease. However, the doctor said that chemotherapy for colon cancer is the mildest of all. Is that true? Anyone has any input on what kind of therapy to go for or real life account?

Thanks.

Hi denise - this is a scary time for you and your mother. My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer 3 years ago, and the prognosis was not good. However, there are some amazing new treatments available. In particular, avastin, which received fda approval last feb. My husband was part of the clinical trial and I believe it is why he is still alive today. The chemo that goes along with it can be difficult, but it's not like it was 10 years ago. Along with the chemo, the patient receives antinausea drugs and life goes on. My husband returned to work and continued his hectic schedule - he just had to report for his treatment every week. My best to you and your family. I will pray for you.

Colon Cancer
Along with normal medical treatments thre are alternative cancer treatment options that could be added to it such as mistletoe extracts. They are used in europe extensively as a form of natural cancer treatment in conjunction with traditional. A couple of websites are www.Cancer.Gov/cancertopics/pdq/cam/mistle toe and http://www.Aacancer.Com/article6.Html I hope this helps.
