I have been on birth control almost a month now. My boyfriend does cum in me, but the week I would have been ovulating he used a condom, just in case the pill wasnt working. I usually take my pill around noon, but this monday, 2 days ago, I forgot, so I took it at at 1am. Now two days later, wednesday night, I am spotting a brownish discharge. I am supposed to start my period this sunday. Does this mean I could be pregnant???? I am freaking out!!! Also I am very tired lately. I dont know what to think!!! My boobs dont hurt at all though, and they usually do 4 days before my period!! I thought the pill was going to work!! I only messed up this one day this week!!
Please email me at my address

I am no doctor, but I have been told numerous times that the pill does not take effect for up to 3 months. This does not necessarily mean that you are pregnant though. Spotting while on the pill is very normal. The best way to protect yourself while on the pill is to also use a condom. This is something like 99.97% effective against pregnancy. If you don't like to use a condom, just try to use it for the next 2 months until your body can get used to the pill. If I were you, I would wait until your period is supposed to come, if it doesn't take a home preg. Test. If it comes up negative, try again in 3 weeks, or go straight to your doctor for a blood test. They will be able to tell right away as apposed to a urine test. If you still don't get your period but your home preg. Test comes up negative, I would stop taking the pill and go see a doctor right away. This is all so touch and go. I hope everything works out. If you want, you can email me anytime.

the pill does not take 3 months to take effect. In most woman, it only takes at the minimum of one month. My doctor advised me to use protection for the first week when I first started on it, and anytime after that I would be protected.

The 3 months is how long it can take for your body to get adjusted for the pill. Most doctors advise a woman staying on them for the 3 months before switching as your body needs that time to get adjusted to the hormones. You are still protected however.

You are absolutely right miss buttons, it doesn't take 3 months for the pill to work. The pills we are prescribed in australia are fully effective after 2 weeks, and after 3 months your hormones should be reasonably adjusted. I guess you just need to read the instructions that come in the pack, it is required by law for that kind of information to be included with the sale of the pack.

There is still a possibility of getting pregnant while on birth control. It happens to a lot of women who are not expecting it. Just a little tidbit.

You Are Very Correct
The girl that I babysit for has 2 children. 2years and 19months. She was on the pill for both children. She is a working woman and sometimes she would forget to take them. She works in the food industry.(which is very time consuming) she did not expect to get pregnant so she went on taking her pills. She never took the pills for the week of her period because the type she was on made her gain weight. (also the doctor told her that she didnt have to) anyways to make a long story short, it is a possibility to become pregnant while on the pill. All I can say is please dont forget to take your pill everyday at the same time. Make it a time like 3pm. That way you wont be sleeping. I used to take mine at 12, but on a lot of days I wouldnt wake up until 3. So make it a neutral time. That is a very important factor.
