------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------

nobody in my family has had any history of epilepsy. Mine started when I was about 14 years old and I am 21 now. I have only had 2 seizures durning that time. The first one , I blacked out, the room was spinning and I couldnt speak, the second time, I felt it coming on, and I fell out of my chair, bit my lip, wet myself ,everything was fuzzy and I couldnt speak. My neurologist put me on depakote and I hate the side affects. I get horrible mood swings, sometimes I m really depressed and other times im super happy, I zone out alot, I get frequent headaches and dizzy spells. I have a really bad memory and it is hard for me to take in alot of information. Does anyone ever feel this way or have the same problems? Does anyone take depakote? Would it be a good idea to get my medication changed? Please let me know
also, do you ever get sick of taking pills like I do. I just want it to go away, I wish I could have surgery so they could remove a piece of tissue and I wouldnt have it anymore but it probobly costs a fortune...
Thanks so much

Been there and done that. I've had seizures since I was 13 and now i'm 17. Anyways, I too was first put on depakote and the side effects were terrible. Mood swings, jerking in arms legs head whatever, and not to forget nausea. Anyways, I was put on tegratol after that (spelling may be off) and had no probs for a while. If you want to get off depakote, I understand but check with a doc and make sure to do it casually, no cold turkey! As far as the surgery goes, for some people it won't do any good. There has to be some visable scarring tissue for them to remove otherwise it won't work. Back to the pills though, just talk to your doc about yor ideas, and tell him that even though depakote is working, you need off it for your reasons above, hopefually he'll understand.

I am 14 and I have had epilepsy in the past. I used to have seizures from age 7-13/14. But my seizures are now under controll. Ask your doctor about the medicine tegratol. When I was on it I didnt have any side effects. I feel your pian epilepsy is hard. But there are people out there with worst situation's then yours. My family also had no history of epilepsy so my mom let it go untreatd for years. I thought something was wrong with me I was 11 years old and still wetting the bed. My suggestion's are ask about tegratol, and take care of your self. Good luck all my prayers
