I feel so relieved reading this -- I get pressure headaches, occasional sharp pains, and the dizziness and I get afraid that it's something unrelated to Hypoglycemia. By what you're all saying, I'm now convinced that it IS from having severe Hypoglycemia since the symptoms are fleeting.

Something else to keep in mind, when I get the symptoms I start worrying that something is wrong with me, which causes severe anxiety only making the initial symptoms worse. Speaking from personal experience, having Hypoglycemia and being predisposed to anxiety go hand in hand.

I disagree, hypoglycemia simply makes it easier to become anxious. You ARE NOT predisposed to anxiety, that is simply one of your symptoms. Trust me, I am so good now I can't even believe some of the things I would get scared of. Now, nothing, just normal stress and such.

Hello to everyone and thank you for reading. I am getting very depressed about these feelings. It was about 2 months ago I had this feeling come over me like when my sugar levels drop(hypoglycemic). It came so fast and I thought that is what it was. I did what I needed to do but the symptoms have become bad pressure on the base of head with these headaches that feel like deep dull aching pain. I also get these striking feelings in my brain. But mostly in a certain spot right in the bottom middle of the head (deep). I have vertigo and I feel strange shaking feeling inside, like tremore in my head, anxiety, and not feeling like myself anymore. My heart beats weird sometimes (like when I bend over and come back up). Since I have been feeling this way it feels like when my sugar drops. But the headaches, and pressure and vertigo is the worse. I not really tired or have feelings of weakness in limbs. I have had mri, catscan but both came back normal. I did have a lumbar epidural about 2half months ago and since that my sypmtoms totally got worse or that is when I felt all of this. I am seeing a great neurologist and ent. Is it normal to hurt still where the epidural was done. Could this be the spinal fluid? I never felt this before and I need serious help..Feel like dieing. I have had my thyroid, parathyroid, calcuim checked..Hormone test..Normal. Please can anyone help. I asked the doc if I had ms..Or parkinsons, huntingtons, he says no..

This sounds similar to what I experience...how are you coping with it?? have you found anything that is helping you at all....have you actually been diagnoses with anything...I have been through so many tests and doctors as well with no complete resuts on a specific diagnosis...

hypoglycemia
I am a new subscriber. I was looking for websites that gave info on headaches in back of the head. I have had hypoglyemia for many years. It is still scary when the symptoms strike. I have had the headaches everyday for over two weeks. I am going to re-evaluate my diet again. I have been on good carbs but maybe my system doesn't like them at this point. I have been vegetarian but am considering going back to meats. Any suggestions on that?

Thank you all for sharing about the headaches. These were not part of my symptoms before but I may have other factors like stress, posture, etc.

Sure, try to eat eggs (perhaps one or two in the morning) and lean meats like fish, turkey and chicken, that should help.

What do you think, Stan?
Hey Stan, I too get a dull ache/pain on the base of my skull when my hypoglycemia is acting up. It is in a very specific spot on the left side behind my neck. How can low blood sugar cause this? It really is annoying. Thanks!

Hi All, so glad I popped in... this past weekend I ended up going into emergency because I got so worried about the pressure in the back of my head and these tremors I had been getting. I am so relieved to find there are other people with the same symptoms I have been getting. When I went in they did a ct scan and tested my blood and couldn't find anything. I am going to for a dr check up this morning... I haven't been to the dr. in years so I am curious; how do they figure out if it is hypoglycemia for sure?

Before a diagnosis is made your doctor will need a blood sugar reading of 2.4mmol or under, this is a hypoglycemic blood sugar level. The value may vary slightly depending on where you are. You should also experience symptoms which are relieved by consuming glucose.

Typically your doctor will call for a GTT first off. If this doesn't show anything, you'll need a 72 hour fasting test for fasting hypoglycemia. If this is negative, you may be diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia depending on your doctor and what evidence he has for the diagnosis at that point. Or further investigation may be done.

Describe all your symptoms to your doctor, what times of the day that they occur etc.

It's very important that both the type of hypoglycemia, and the cause are found.

Same thing here
For the last year my symptoms have been sparatic, it's like none of them link together to find a diagnosis. Last year they found a 4mm nodule in my right lung, a nodule in my right breast. The one in my lung is too small for a biopsy however the one in my breast was removed and is not cancerous. They also found small " Infarcts " on my brain during a CT , yet nothing showed up on the MRI. I have these headaches where the back of my head burns and it often feels tight. It seems to come and go but when they strike it hurts so bad. This headaches burn the back of my head and then are regular headaches towards the front and top of my head. Some times it almost feels as though something is leaking onto my brain. So it helps to know others experience similar situations and can often help find ideas as to what could cause it...Thanks for suggesting being checked for hypoglycemia I will defiantly check into that.

Persistent headaches are a concern and need to be investigated by specialists if no cause has been found. I assume investigations are still ongoing?

If you have no other symptoms of hypoglycemia then it's unlikely that this is the cause.

I can relate to this to some degree... I was recently just told that I've had a sinus infection for the past 3 months and have finally been put on some antibiotics. The striking feeling you describe in your head is something I just started to experience... and the way I describe it, almost feels like small bursts of adrenaline that could possibly be my body's way of telling me to "HEY, WAKE UP!", but that's just a guess to what it actually is. The sensation doesn't last for more than a second, but it happens often when I am feeling very low. Kind of reminds me of the sensation you get just before sneezing.. like a head rush or something.... But I find myself nearly falling over from exhaustion and these striking feelings I think save me from doing that.

pain in back of neck.
I've had this for years and have seen several doctors and neurologists. By tremors do you mean your head shakes uncontrollably like when trying to drink a glass of water? Do you also have poor concentration. Does your mind race with thoughts on occasion. Have you ever had a panic attack? Do these symptoms occur when you meet a stranger or when your in large crowds? Do you sometimes have insomnia caused by a restless mind that can't stop thinking and let you rest?

Beyond Vertigo
I've had vertigo spells for years. But lately they have become worse. I never know when the vertigo spells will hit. That's the part that is really depressing. At the beginning it wasn't so bad. But now when it hits I throw up several times. I have to lay down on my stomach with my head face down in the bed with a little whole I make so I can breath. I have to have some one help me to the bathroom because I'm that unbalanced. I'm usually down for 24 hours I can not eat. chewing gum helps because i don't have to put my head up to drink or eat so that helps to have some juices flowing & something else to think about. I just had my most recent vertigo spell & this one put me out for almost 48 hours. The new symptom that has been added to this one is that I have a head ache in the back of the head I can not get rid of. I'm going on a week now with the head ache. It's the right side, back of the head in the occipital bone part. I have been to ear nose throat Dr. Got the MRI's, taken hearing test etc. They found nothing. About 5 years ago he said I had Meniere's disease. Now recently he said I didn't. He tried to do the rocking of the head thing to see if he could get ear crystals loose. Nothing happened with that. I go to a neurologist in a couple of weeks. Had that appt set up for 2 months now from my last vertigo spell. That's how long it takes to get into these Doctors. Some one could die before they ever get to see a doctor. I take my allerga D, Valome at times. That what they have given me for the vertigo. I don't think it helps at all. Just makes me throw up more. I have began to pay attention to everything, from what I ate to when the weather changes from one extreme to the next. Like barometric pressure brings on the vertigo maybe. I have ringing in my ears which I just try to get use to. But today if I could just get rid of this damn head ache I could live with that.

I have had these same things going on now for at least 4 or so weeks now, also I have been tested with CT scan, X-rays, pills, etc. Nothing has worked, right now I am trying to see if Chriopractic will help with the pain, I guess we will see in the next few days or so. I saw something on yahoo health called cluster headaches that kinda had some symptoms, but there is no cure for it.

vertigo with woozy type pressure in top/back of head
Hello all,

I found this forum because I was googling vertigo with pressure in top of my head. It's been happening for the past 4 years. I'm hypoglycemic and have just began cutting starchy grain carbs in the past 3 days, sort of following a South Beach type thing, not as low as Adkins. I'm hoping this will help as someone said to go a few days under 100g carbs. I call it a 'woozy' feeling in the top back of my head. Not quite nauseated but sort of a sick motion feeling, like when you're on an elevator or looking down while reading in a moving car. It just happens at any time now. I thought maybe it was low sugar related but sometimes it happens AFTER I eat. I wonder if its Candida related, overgrowth of the wrong kind of intestinal flora that sets one up for allergies, brain fog, recurrent infections, fatigue, etc. Fatigue also goes hand in hand with this feeling. Sometimes a nap takes the edge off but usually it comes back in the evening. I don't know, maybe food allergies or sensitivities? Have you been tested for Celiac disease? The gut and head or interconnected. Try reading "You, The Owners Manual" by Michael F. Rozen and Mehmet C. Oz. It says the neurotransmitters of the intestines are closely related to the neurotransmitters of the brain. Hope this helps.

I have had this type of feeling in the back of my head during bouts of anxiety. When I was going through a time when I was having lots of panic attacks, I had this feeling alot.
