Does anyone know what it's like to go through one of these? My tummy is growing and since my last positive hpt I haven't had any more positives. I'm wondering if I were to have a chemical pregnancy would I know it by now.

Hey,

i've never had a checmical pregnancy that I know of. I've read up on them a bit in the past. Apparently most chemical pregnancies will end in miscarriage before you even know your pregnant or even miss a period for that matter. However in some cases a women will take a test and it will come out positive followed by a negative or followed by a Dr. Visit with low hgc levels. Then the Dr. Will tell you to come back with in a week or so to check the levels again and if they are still low or not doubling then they will usually tell you to wait a week and if your period doesnt start to go back so they can do a dnc to clean you out. One of the main symptoms of a checmical pregnancy is loosing your pregnancy sypmtoms. So to answer your question. You may not know it. Only your Dr. Can tell you for sure.

I would definatly talk to your dr about it though. I'm just telling what i've read online and in books and its probably not the whole story but its the just of it.

Hope everything goes well

Thanks girrly! I don't know what's going on, but i'll find out soon. I'm not terribly worried about it because I still have some symptoms. I think a may be farther along than I thought though. My tummy is growing and i've gained two pounds so far. Hopefully, i'm not going crazy!

Hey pitterpatter

a chemical pregnancy is an early pregnancy that ends in miscarriage, really early, so early that there is no ultrasound to confirm that there was a pregnancy, only the raised hcg levels. That's why it's called chemical, it can only be confirmed chemically, the baby is too small to be seen on an ultrasound.

Since you're so far along you wouldn't fall into the category of chemical pregnancy, but it would be a good thing to get checked out by your doctor.

Here's a description I got of a site:
a chemical pregnancy is the clinical term for a pregnancy that is confirmed by a pregnancy test, but not by clinical signs, and is lost before clinical signs can be observed through means such as an ultrasound. The pregnancy test is often "faintly" positive or blood hcg levels are low. It is believed that fertilization occurs, but that the egg never implants.

And like in my case, hcg levels can be too low to register on an hpt. Hpt's need a hormone level of anywhere from 50 to 100...My levels didn't get past 29 or so.

I hope all turns out well for you
