Q: Crib Or Bassinet

Okay, I have little jonathan's crib already, but I am mapping out my room's floorplan to see where everything will go, and I don't see how I will be able to use it. Okay I wan't little jon to sleep right by my bed so that I can watch him breathe, but there is no way I can put a crib right by my bed, it would block something off. So I was thinking about saving the crib until he gets older, and buy a bassinet for him to sleep in. I am not talking about a play pin that most people refer to as a bassinet, but a real one. I'll see if I can find a pic. So what do ya'll think? Will the bassinet be okay, or will he need to sleep in the crib from the start? I really don't want him to have to sleep away from me. I think I am going to cry now.

Hey sweetie, in our family we use bassinets alot, we always get a crib and the bassinet the only bad thing is that depending on the baby's size they may not be able to use it that long. Just a thought, you can prob use it for like the first 2 months maybe 3. I hope that this helped. Smile

They also have these things called "moses baskets" that is like a portable bassinet that you can put anywhere! You could probably even put it on the bed next to you! If you just search the net for "moses basket" you can see what i'm talking about!

Im using a bassinette with brooklyn. She doesnt like to sleep in her crib, and the only way I actually get some sleep is if I sleep on the couch with the bassinette on the floor next to me. If im sleeping and I have to wake up and get out of bed, feed her, and then get into bed, it takes me forever to fall back asleep, and then shes waking me up right away again after I fall back asleep. Mine is a little short one, that converts from a vibrating bouncer seat to a bassinette. The thing is once they get so big, or once they learn how to sit up(or pull up, or anything), you cant use them anymore, and then they might have an even harder time adjusting to their crib. I put brooklyn in her crib when shes awake sometimes, and sometimes when she naps during the day so then she can kinda start to get used to it.

I don't think we're gonna have room for a bassinet! I don't want tru sleeping in our room at all, but mike seems to think the first week or two is a must. I'd rather her not ever get used to not sleeping alone so that she'll sleep more quickly and calmly alone. But yeah we're only using a crib.

I think i'll give the bassinet a try until he gets too big for it. An no I won't get him a pink one stacie, eventhough I am tempted.Lol. Jon thinks that I am going to give little jonathan a complex, by dressing him like a girl, lol. It's not like i'll really do it (that often). I don't think i'll be able to help doing it sometimes.

I had boughten a bassinet for my little one, its a good idea because you can watch him sleep..Or even wheel it on into the living room while he is napping and you are doing whatever it is that you may be doing.
The bassinet is one of the great things to have in the baby world..Especially early on.

I think it's a good idea to use a bassinet. Their nice cause when you wake up in the middle of the night you can just pull them into bed to feed them. Unless you bottle feed than that might not work as well.

Yeah get a portable one and save the crib for later on, therefore when your baby grows out of the bassinet, you have a backup Wink* im sure you'll liike it better.

I used a cradle (just like a bassinet) in the beginning cuz her crib is in her room and I couldnt sleep without her near me at first! When she was 7 weeks I started putting her in her crib.. Sometiems she'll sleep in her swing or cradle still but shes got the crib down pat... Either way... They're both good.
