Q: Blood In Stool

About once every four to six weeks, I experience bright red blood in my stool - coloring the toilet water red. Nothing to speak of in the intervening weeks. Also, I have occasional mild dull pain-like feelings in various areas of my abdomen. I love spicy foods, and my mother had colorectal cancer three years ago (gone now). No significant health problems whatsoever over my 48 years. I just got the voicemail of a local internal medicine specialist and left my info for a callback. Any advice or recommendations?
