Started having bowel troubles some 7 weeks ago and I am up for scopy next week. This morning I had a spell of loose stools with a strange looking string in it. Got it out with tweezers, cleaned it and rushed it to the gp. He says is is a piece of mucous membrane of the colon and it looks normal, not like a piece of a polyp or a damaged tumor. However, he never saw it before and it is taken out for research. My best friend is a vet and he says it is very common in dogs; mostly means a parasite or a viral infection. Well, of course it scares the beejees out of me and I was wondering whether anybody has had this same thing. Thanks! Blessya.

Hi

mucus can be present with dysentheria, which is a problem of the mucosa of the colon: inflammation, infection. It can also be fat, due to malabsorption. There are so many things that it may be, but do not be excessively concerned. It seems that you are being evaluated.
