Q: What About Zantac?

just got back from the Dr. He put me on 300 mg of zantac a day!
that's 4 more pills than I was already taking! Also put me back on prednisone for 3 weeks! Ugh!!! And I was right, I have lost 10 lbs. This week. But i'll probably gain 30 back!
Back to the topic, has anyone taken zantac for stomach problems before? I just took the first dose, so I don't know if it's going to work. But i'm hopeful. At least he didn't think it was an ulcer due to my other meds. That was a relief. He is also making me an appt. With a rhumatoligist! I hope this is a good thing. I'm just a little scared. I don't know what to expect. Any help at all?

Hi kris, on top of my lupus and fibromyalgia, I also have epilepsy. I was told by my neuralagist, not to take zantac.
I'm not sure if it had to do with my lupus or my epilepsy meds.
In fact she made a point to let me know never take any over the counter meds. Except tums.
You might want to ask a pharmacist if you can take it with your other meds. He will know more about side affects.
Any time my doctor puts me on a new med, I always ask the pharmacist how it will work with my other meds.

Thanks sharon, i'll talk to him tomorrow. I had been taking tums, but they didn't seem to work at all. I felt more bloated than anything. Sounds weird huh I sure do hope it was your epilepsy meds, because my belly sure does feel good tonight :d and that was just one dose. I have so very few days when I feel good that I don't want to think about stopping something that has worked in one area. Know what I mean? But I will talk to my pharmistis tomorrow.

Hi kris,
i have taken zantac before. It didn't conflict with my meds but you need to check. It didn't work that well for because I was dealing with 2 problems but now I take prevacid and everything is great. I have heard a lot of people say zantac works for them. If it doesn't work you may just need to try something else. Good luck.
