Hello everyone,

my dad suffers from complex partial seizures, hes currently taking dilantin, the doctor has him on the highest dose. He takes his medication every night but yet he still gets the seizure like once or twice every three weeks, is this normal to still get a seizure while taking the medicine every day without missing. Before he got on medication it use to be so bad where he would get seizures up to 4 times a day and he wouldnt even relize it not until he gets migranes from it or hurts himself by chewing up his mouth. Also is there anything that helps people from chewing up there mouth when getting a seizure like specail mouth piece or something. Im very worried about my dad, he always tells me that hes scared that he will die from his seizures. It tears me up inside because I live far out of state from my dad and I cant really help him as much as I would like to. My mom doesnt put much effort in helping my dad, which makes me upset. But anyway answers to my questions or advice would help. Thanks

Need Help For Dad
Hi, it is possible to take medication and still have seizures , I myself am an example of this, just because someone takes medication for epilepsy it does not necessarily mean that the medication will totally control it.
There are approximately 20- 25% who dont benifit from full control with medication. Your dad may fall into this category or may need to see a nuerologist and get his medication reviewed ,it is possible that maybe the dilantin does not suit him any more or may need his dosages adjusting.
He may get better control if he took half his dilantin in the morning and the other half in the evening ,this would result in a more even level of dilantin in his system rather than having a large dose in the evening .
Good luck
