I have gasric bypass in march and I had lots of complications including my incision being infected. They opened it up and put a wound vac on it. The wound had to heal on it's own and when it finally healed it healed incorrectly and cause a hernia that makes me look pregnant. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?? Or am I alone??

No, you are not alone. Infection of the surgical wound and its dehiscence (splitting) are most common complications after any abdominal surgery. This is especially common for people with diabetes, advanced age, obesity and trauma during the post-surgical period. I believe obesity was the risk factor in your case.
Hernia is probably result of improper healing of the infected wound. You can request another surgery (hernioplasty) to solve the hernia.

Hernia's Wound Vac
You are certainly not alone! Mine was not due to Gastric Bypass - I had multiple absesses in my abdomin, and also had a fistulla (sp) due to the operation. I too had to be opened up and heal from the inside with the "help"of the wound vac.

Eventually, it stopped working, and I was healed as much as it could, and they closed me up, but not before developing multiple hernias. As the Dr stated there is a repair, however getting insurance is another story as well as finding clothes that actually hide or can fit!

Just wanted to let you know - you are NOT ALONE!

wound vac complication
I''m wondering if this wound vac should be abandoned. Sorry with all the complications that I agreed to it. If I were you I''d get a second opinion. Not just one online. See 2 other suoo. You can write me if you like.
