Nervous rashes are common in a lot of people. Going on a special diet or taking medications are not worth it. You are still going to get nervous occasionally. Or embarassed. Everyone does. You should grow to accept that your neck gets red when you are nervous. It is just like blushing. It is from blood running to your face and neck. No stress management is going to get rid of that!

Thanks for explaining this..I really appreciate this.

yes, i too suffer from this uncool skin disorder. to tell you the truth i really didn't know what it was untill like 85 seconds ago when i read these messages. so let me first say HALLELUJA i'm not a freak!!! i was resorting to hypochondriac like tendencies thinking i was inflicted with some crazy flesh devouring disease! despite being releived that i'm not gonna kick out any time soon, it still sucks a little. i'm a seventeen year old girl, im embarassed enough without looking like i just lost at a game of paintball. i also noticed that i got this right after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism (another pain in the buttinsky) so maybe theres a connection. maybe i'll Sherlock Holmes it for a bit and try to uncover some information for ya. i havent taken any sort of meds of any kind for this problem (it will take a life threatening injury with convulsions and lots of blood before I'LL agree to go to a doctor!). my current solution is to pack a hoody wherever i go..... wich sort of backfires about the middle of July. i know theres SOME teenagers out there who love to pack on as many layers as they can in the 100 degree heat to look cool and mysterious but i am definately not skinny or pale enough to pull off the emo look so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Wink untill then i'll keep making up random excuses for why i'm all blotchy-last week it was a bad reaction to some poisonous gas bombs thrown at me as i battled a band of highly trained ninjas to the death!!!!

good luck. I know of someone who some skin problems. I would suggest looking into creams (not too expensive ones). They might really help. Otherwise go to a dermatologist. But make sure that you are insured.

I totally thought that my sister and I were the only ones that had this nervous rash.... it is worsening as I get older and seems to interfere more and more now that I am in a job that deals with real situations, ie. meetings, constant relations with the public etc. Every time im mad, upset, anxous, nervous, drinking or being confronted I get all blotchy. It is so embarassing and wish to hell there was something that I could take to get rid of it. Realizing now that it is obviously in the family genes, neither my mom or dad have it although my one aunt and my sister get is and all can relate. If anyone knows a medication that can stop it im all up for trying it - really feel like it is ruining a social life that I would love to have. LOL Like you all say - no one can relate unless they have it - its literally horrible, for me anyways. If I try a medication for anxiety I wonder if that would take it away - let me know if anyone finds something.

Has anyone been told or think this rash we have is a kind of rosaca?

My aunt and I have the same nervous rash I am 25 and she is 40. She says it gets worse as you age and I am seeing that for sure... she was told a few years ago that she has a form of rosacea so I suppose this could be linked. Doctors don't seem to know too much about this rash.... they just prescribe medication when I don't think that there is really anything that can fix it.

I know many people get a sort of "rash" when they are anxious or nervous. It is more of a red blochy tone to their skin. This tends to happen to myself if I am very upset. Common places for it to occur on people is their face, neck, and abdomen. As far as a medication to stop it or prevent it...as far as I am aware...there is nothing! Sad

Red Rash Queen
HI! I just started searching about my "red spots" a couple of months ago and found this one. I have been having this episodes of rashes since I was in the 5th grade ( Talk about tormenting!) I like in the hottest part of the south, so it is really bad.
What triggers it for me?
-heat/sun
-alcohol drinks
-certain lotions/face cleansers
-social settings, giving speeches or talking in front of crowds or new people
-getting embarrassed/nervous

SO, I found an article in the paper, and was giving all these symptoms and said it was called rosesa- I wasn't sure if it was what I had because I looked at all the pictures on the internet and it looked more like pimples or puss saks on the face not the neck, which is where i get the worse of mine.
However, I started using this cream, finacea which is a topical cream that you put on where the effected area is and so far I have had no red spots, i've been going in the sun/drinking wine and nothing appears to be happening!!! i'm so excited, i wish i knew this before my wedding because that was just so awful b/c of my red spots.
It's nothing you can just get over, so people should not post that unless they actually suffer from them because it is so embarrassing.
I don't know if this will help any of you, but it sounds like what I have and this cream has really been helping me.
I even found out that I have these bumps on my face mainly the upper part of my check, i always thought it was acne, tried every acne cream. They are not bad and they are really small and under the skin, but i found out that is part of the roseaca also, So i've been taking doxocycline for that and they cleared up, but it is an antibiotic so you can only take it for 10 days at a time, but it stays gone for a long time.

The bad part,
I get the spots almost everywhere now. But I just mainly put the cream on my face/neck that is exposed and sometimes arm's depending on where I am going/what I am wearing.
The cream is a 30g tube, which if you want to use it everyday, it doesn't last too long, but it is only 25$ with my insurance (I'm sure everyone's is diff) But if 25$ keeps it away I will buy a tube all the time!

I really hope this helps someone, because this is the most embarrassing thing to go through, esp when you in college giving speeches all the time, going on job interviews, weddings, or any social situation where you may want to be social but it really holds you back.

Rash
Wow....I can't beleive so many ppl have this condition too...I get it on my face, neck, chest, and upper shoulders...it only lasts for about 20-30 mins...i too have seen a derm and he told me it was a mild case of rosacea...which is false...I thought I was the only one that had this, cause i never seen anyone or heard of anyone having this...unfortunately, there is no name for this, nor a cure...but I was reading on a website, vhi, that there are some things that may slow it down....
tenormin
hivecten
inderol
rosa cure
b6 and magnesium
niacinamide
gabba plus
beta blockers

From what i can see, most ppl say the beta blockers and the niacinamide are the best...i'm going to give them a try..
Also, someone raised a good point about when this started...just after a traumatic experience...then i started thinking....and thats when it happened to me..also, most ppl were from irish decent...hmmm, maybe theres a link...

I Have to Pick At Everything
Even since childhood being diagnosed with a nerves stomach, I have always had a skin problem. Then to top it off, I have to pick at all my scabs. Not good I know. I still do it. Part of the problem I would imagine.

Good Ol Rash
Yes, i suffer from sporadic anxiety. I will feel fine for months, and one good night of drinking will kick me back to extreme anxiety. I feel scared, nervous, unhealthy, worried, sad, deppressed.. I also get a rash around my arms and thighs, which i can control with childrens benadryl, thats right 20 min after consuming there gone. My solution to an anxiety free life would be healthy eating, exercising, no alcohol, and a good firend, in this case my mother. Thank you all, and best wishes.

Let's add one more to the torture list. I too suffer from the terrible "red rash." I have for about five years now and i'm hoping I don't have too many to go. I've been to my doctor who says, and I quote him "It's just the way you are and there's nothing anyone can do about it." I basically think what he says is a bunch of bs and I know there is some way we all can go on with our lives and not having to worry about covering up our neck or chest constantly. I believe we all have some sort mix of circulatory problems, blood pressure problems, and definately stress. I agree when people say, as you get older it gets worse, because as we get older the stress gets worse. I'm only 20 years old now and want to stop this. I'm sick and tired of skipping out on social events or having to pick through the clothes racks at the store to find something that will cover up my neck. I want to be able to wear a sexy revieling tank top! I just can't believe no doctor has figured this out yet.

Blotchy
I'm convinced that this isn't a skin disorder. I think is has to do with anxiety. I think its a chemical in our body (maybe brain) that is either too much or not enough. Maybe adrinaline...cause when a "episode" happens, our heart races, causeing BP to go up, and we feel that we're on fire. Now the question is, why is it that when we're outside in the sun it happens. For me, as soon as the sun hits my chest, neck and upper shouders, it happens. Even if i'm just sitting down, relaxing.
Do anyone else notice that after it fades away, it doesn't come back for acouple of hours/day?

Red Rash Syndrome
Hello. I've been reading these posts concerning the what I call "Red Rash Syndrome"...especially since everything these days has a "syndrome" attached to it, and thought I'd just add a few thoughts.

Yes, it seems the "RRS" is brought on by nerves, anxiety, stress, etc. and not really anything you may be alergic to. I too, have this condition and have since I was a child. I am now 50 years old. My older sister suffers from it as well and has all her life too. Between the two of us, we have heard it all!

Yes, the beta blocker or even something like klonopin can help since it allows you to calm down and actually live life the way you want. Baby doses are always best and may be all that is necessary. Some of us are just born more sensitive to certain situations and our intrernal coping mechanisms may need help...and that's OK. Some times we are just thrown into certain situations that bring on the "RRS" and there's no way out but to suffer through it and the questions that follow.

It will get better. As you grow older and gain experience with people, your confidence will grow with you. If someone acts like an ass about it to your very face, it's just not worth stressing over. Just try to eliminate them from your routine if you can as you will always feel self-conscience around them. For our peace of mind, we need to always surround ourselves with people who are kind and don't point out what may be interpreted as a flaw to others. We who suffer from "RRS" are very much in tune with others who do, or become nervous, anxious or emotional and would never think of drawing attention to them. It's also what we want in return from people. I don't know if that will ever happen as there are alot of insensitive people out there at all times.

Try to live your life as if each day was your last. Adopt a "who cares" sort of attitude toward your "RRS." I know after so many years and situations that's a really tall suggestion, but in the long run, you will build up your confidence and soon find out that if you let it dictate your life, you will not be fullfilling your true destiny. We need more people like us who are kind and sensitive in this world. Be proud that you are one of them.

Gosh, that sounds like a sermon. I really am a very fun person! Enjoy!

Stress Rash
hi there,
i found this site today and have just been given the beta blocker Inderal,im hoping this helps me.
im sure this is caused by anxiety, as soon as i get upset or anxious this heat rash takes over, its the rash that comes after the anxiety, so the rash itself although embarrassing is like a reaction to the stress...i actually was having a rash attack and had to have my blood pressure done at the bloodbank and the result was 155 over 90.
the same thing happened at a medical for the gym and i didnt even think i was that stressed....same high reading and rash.
my first time getting this was after a really stressful event and i left my job over it,(not the rash lol) its at a nursinghome, everytime i would go and visit the residents the rash waould come just talking to other co workers about why i left, i now work there doing a different job,its a couple of years ago now, but the rash comes in other situations now, like even incrowded places and when my boss is not very nice to me which happens alot
im hoping inderal works for me:)

Stress Rash
hi there cat111
thanks for the comment, yes its my first day on inderal the beta blocker,it really let me see how different life can be on it, its usually many times a day i feel the heat coming from this rash, and even so mild just be noticeable in a way that you get so used to it until ive treid meds. a big one hits and then its so traumatic, having inderal this morning made me feel different, but as its only my first day by lunchtime out in the heat and i got put on the spot and got anxious and got a bit of a rash:(
i was reading about a disorder called erythrophobia~the blushing disease...wonder if its this??
and how the beta blockers block the overdrive of adrenaline, apparently they say only producing a tingle if you get a rush of chemicals,,,and wow i got a tingle, so the stuff works it was weird..Apparently thats what the beta blockers do help the autonomic nervous system, which is where the fault lies...STOPPING the symptoms of anxiety.eg: chronic blushing, sweating tremor in some people. interesting to see if the meds will help better over a longer time,my doc gave me catapres initially, it was another doc who gave me inderal..im going to see my doc and tell him its gotten worse since i went to him awhile ago and see what he thinks of inderal
will keep ya posted
any comments would be appreciated
cheers lisa

Nervous Rash
Two yrs ago the doctor percribed me a beta blocker she said it would take 4 to 6 whks to work. She didnt really explain the side effects well,i took them for only 3 wks because at the time i was suffering from panic attacks not that many but while trying the pills i could feel tingling it my chest and also i could hear my own heart beat and it was really fast it scared me so much cause it felt like i was goin to have a panic attack so i stopped them and didnt go back to the doc.If it has happened to u maybe i should try them properly this time ,i also could not sleep properly too but things are different now i cant remeber the last time i had a full blown panickattack but i know thats because i live in my confort zones and i ve stopped exceling myself and i feel like im just exsiting not living my life .AHH no wonder i feel crap

If you are red all the time, it could be a skin condition. Some people are just rosy, though. I am.
