Rash
I'm glad to see that this isn't uncommon. Up until two days ago this had never happened to me. I have always blushed easily but never gotten this. I'm 22. But there is one person whom I get so nervous around, they don't even have to speak to me and it happens, but yesterday they actually came up and sat down next to me and when I went to my room I saw that my entire neck and chest was covered in what appeared to be a rash. Hopefully it won't happen all of the time from now on and it is just this one person who will trigger iit.

I get exactly the same rash too but it has never really bothered me...I suppose very few people have asked me what it is either not wanting to embarrass me or just assumed it was a minor skin irritation. But then I only get a small patch...A few times my whole face went red too but was on my own....

Well i'm 20 years old and just got 'the rash' a few days ago, it was just a lil on my forearms, then I drank that night and awoke with it on 90% of my body, I went to a walk in clintic and the Dr. Told me it was pry from change in soap or something but perscribed me the steroids, it's 4:17 am and i've been awake all night, i'm coming down with a cold or something and drank coffee to calm my throat, the rash was going away but now is back and itchy as hell, I don't know what to do, I do believe smoking cigerettes as well as marijuanna eases the 'hives', but drinking alcohol as well as coffee must increase the reaction, although i'm new to this i'm sure it's the same thing yall have and i'm just making guesses about it for the most part. Could anyone point me toward a anti itch? Or anti inflamitory (i think that's the right word) i'm desperate i'm losing my mind with all the itching n burning,

Yes...you Are Not Alone.
It is late and I jumped out of bed to lookup why in the heck I have had this strange rash that comes and goes when I get nervous for years now.
I am a 27 year old female and people joke that you can tell my mood by my the rash on my neck. The larger the rash ..The more angry, nervous or upset I am.

Forget a game face... I literally wear my emotions.

even when I don't feel nervous, but I am with a group of people my neck will turn red. Business is the worst.. We all get nervous, but the rash comes so quickly and people either lose focus of what I am sayiing or they know that I am nervous and take the best of the situation. I don't know what to do....I would breath, but the rash comes and goes faster than it would take to breath myself to a mediatitive state.

This past year, I noticed that my neck will also turn red after I blow dry my hair. I don't know if it is because of the heat or because I am going out...

I hope this help me or anyone who deals with this....

I Have the Same Thing!!
Im glad to see im not the only one out there. But for the person who says that she gets it when she blow dries her hair. I dont think its the heat. I think you are just anxious, excited, or nervous at the time about whats going to happen when you get to your destination. I get my rash when im getting ready to go hang out with my friends at the bar or even just going out to dinner with someone ive never met before. Also for those of you saying that alcohol triggers your rash' it also does for me, however just walking into a bar make my whole neck and chest turn brite red. Somtimes I get lucky enough that it goes away in like a half an hour after getting really blotchy of course.

If anyone knows the name of this or a cure let me know!! Its screwing with my social life!!

Blotchiness
So I get this blotchy rash on my chest and sometimes neck, usually when i'm nervous or excited, and sometimes triggered by heat. But really the thing that makes it 100x worse is when I think it is going to happen, or know it's starting, and I freak out. I'm in high school, and one weekend my friends and I went to visit our friend at college, and we were so excited to go out and party. So we were at dinner first, wearing cute going out clothes, (of course low-cut shirts) and I was so anxious I was going to get this rash that of course I did, and really bad. So I zipped up my jacket, and went to the bathroom ,and saw it was really, really bad. So, even though I thought it was weird, I covered my chest in heavyduty concealer. To my surprise not only did that comletley cover it up, for the time being, but after about 5 minutes, since my anxiety about people seeing the blotchiness was gone, it immediately went away. Now, I always make sure I have my concealer w/ me ready. And, i've hardly gotten it at all!

I have had the blotchy rash as well since I was 13 I am now 30 years old. I have recently found out when I do have the rash I have extremely high blood preasure. I was put on a atenolol and it does not stop the rash or my high blood preasure. It is caused by part of the nervous system...Is that part of the autonomic nervous system that regulates involuntary, bodily functions such as increasing heart rate, constricting blood vessels, and increasing blood pressure. Basically there is a disconnect in your bodies where our brain communicates anxiety to everyday events, but our bodies react like we're being attacked by a lion or something crazy like that.. Anything can cause it for me but as many have stated it happens mostly when I am under any type of stress, eat, drink, like a guy, go to the doctor. Anything! For those of you who say just get over it I don't think you are understanding what it is. Your neck turns so blotchy and bright red it looks almost purple. How would you like to break out like that everytime you talked to someone you had a crush on or talked to your boss? People frek out when they see it and point at you and say "omg are you okay ? What is wrong with you?" this is not just a small rash ether it is all on your chest, up your neck and checks, and sometimes on your arms. Also most people with this condition will sweat alot when it happens causing your arm pits to have a big wet mark. That is attractice huh?
The condition is called erythrophobia, or just simply-facial blushing. It is caused by overactive nerves in the chest cavity. Although there are other treatments suggested, the one that keeps popping up in my research has been ets. For more information on this go to the website www.Handsweat.Com.

I have talked to a person that had this proceedure because she is an actress and would break out at auditions and it was ruining her career.

Erythrophobia
facial blushing occurs suddenly as a response to a particular social situation. It can be painfully embarrassing and often provokes an unwanted comment.

An overly active sympathetic chain of nerves is the cause of facial blushing. This can be corrected by the use of an endoscope and a skilled surgeon performing the ets procedure. The experienced surgeon locates the thoracic sympathetic ganglion chain inside the chest cavity and interrupts the nervous supply to the small blood vessels of the face.

!! First impressions count !!
During everyday life people quite often encounter others and are expected to interact socially. A handshake or brief conversation can seem relatively harmless, but in essence provides a solid first impression of another person. Often people are judged based on a first impression. A bright red face with burning sensation often cause accelerated heart rate, frustration and insecurity.

Excessive and uncontrollable facial sweating or blushing may make a person appear to be nervous, unable to focus/concentrate or a bit suspicious. This can be very detrimental during a job interview or important meeting. Ultimately, this can and often does hinder one's career path or relationship status. Individuals suffering from hyperhidrosis/facial blushing are often labeled antisocial or even reclusive. Fortunately, these obstacles can be overcome by this sophisticated ets procedure.

Hi I have felt so much better just reading all of your tales about the dreadful blotchy neck syndrome! I have suffered from this since I was about 18. I first became aware of it while I was a student nurse and I think I was giving a hand over in a small stuffy office and the sister was asking me questions that I wasnt sure of the answer to, she was very strict. I was unaware of the rash but somebody said " oh whats happened to your neck?" from this day on just the fear of going blotchy can trigger the damn thing off if im not feeling very secure. Alcohol again is a very big trigger, especially if the pub is small and not much air, as I can go blotchy when simply hot! As a nurse I find this very embarrasing as others can see your neck in a uniform. I have tried beta-blockers and they really help if taken when anticipate a nervy event, they just stop pulse from racing and help you feel more in control of your emotions. I think after reading everyone elses problems it has made me feel that I shouldnt worry too much about it, it doesnt make me any less of a person and I need to try and not let it take over my life.I also suffer from hyperhidrosis and I wonder if anyone else with this condition does? Will see what ets is all about as would dearly love to find a cure!

Rash
I am quite relieved to read that so many other people suffer with similar symptoms to me. I have always been very quick to blush, I can always tell when it is happening, with the hit feeling creeping over me. I first found out about the 'rash' after I had a terrible interview. I came out and looked in the mirror and saw my chest and neck were a mass of red blotches.

Now I am aware of it I try to make my neck covered in stressful situations, but it happerns all of the time at work and I dread certain situations - for the fear of the rash being visible.

I am sure that the anticpation makes it worse, and sometines it comes up when I am not even that nervous.

I have not spoken to my doctor as yet, but I do feel like that this holding me back and would love to hear of anything that anyone else has used in the past to help, or even a good way to cover it up!

I have seen mentions of dermablend from others, but it doesn't seem easy to buy in the shops and as there are such a range of colours I don't wanna risk getting the wrong one off the internet.

Any help or advice gratefully received!!

ok! I went to the doctor and told her about my problem. I was talking to her about the rash, and I got the rash! It was so noticable and even though it was a doctor I was so embarresed and started crying. It was uncontrollable, it' s just that embarressing!!! She tested my blood for some stuff and I get the results in a few days and she put me on paxcil, antidepression pills( for the redness) not depression. So, I dont know how my body is going to react to that but im supposed to see results in six weeks so ill keep you posted!!!

Hi everybody,
when I found this website, I cried because for so long I thought I was going mad. For the past five years, I have suffered from anxiety. It has only gotten physical over the past few years (the blotch breakouts) I am a 25 yr old irish female and my life has basically come to a standstill. I think it is social phobia or something that I have because, whenever I go into social situations like meetings, going out, meeting someone by chance on the street etc - my face breaks out into sporadic blotches which burn, it spreads down my neck, chest and arms. It happens when I eat, drink alcohol, laugh too much, or if I am feeling really anxious. If it was just a blush - I think I could handle it, but since it looks so extreme on my pale skin and really stands out, I just have shyed away from any situations that it might happen in. I have pushed all my friends away, as I have a fear of blotching in front of them. Its too hard to explain why it happens and it is always awkward because they never know what to do or say. I have also had to leave my job as I have had panic attacks over it happening, and I could never go to social outings etc. Its a vicious circle really, because im more anxious about it happening. I always carry a mirror around with me and check if im going blotchy. I really hate when it happens because its like people can see right through me, its like that feeling that you get in the dream when you find that youre naked...I suppose its shame I feel when it happens because I think people will think its a weakness. Also there is such a stigma about anxiety and not enough awareness or understanding.
I have gone to the doctor and he has put me on lexapro. I took it because it is just the last straw, I dont normally agree with medication as I know it only treats the symptoms and its not wise to put chemicals into my body..But at this stage, ill try anything because I really want my life back.
I tried that make up - dermablend. The blotches still come through it, but if you apply over the blotches, it does cover it very well....And I suppose that is a little help.
I dont think surgery is the answer....I mean, have you read about that guy who died when having the operation? Anyway, im going to try and do meditation and find some way to relax myself inside..
Its really nice in a horrible way to know that so many of you relate to what im going through. Anyway, sorry for the depressing long post, just wanted to thank you all for giving me the strength to carry on finding a way to get over this.

Oh wow I don't feel as bad anymore, I only know of one other person who this happened to and for her it's only on the chest.

It happens to me when i'm in the shower, out in public and my boyfriend has noticed it has come when we are making out and making love. It really comes out on my whole body almost, I always feel embarrassed cause I don't know how to make it go away. At first I thought I was just going crazy and seeing red for know reason hahaha but no others see it and now comment on it.

Male Rash Sufferer
Wow this forum is really interesting. I too suffer from getting the 'dreaded' rash on my face, neck and chest. It seems tho that most of the posts are from females. Are there many males who suffer, and how do they treat it? Obviously because i'm male I can't use derma-blend or heavy conceiler. But i've heard that using beta blockers works, sounds good but how do I get hold of them?

Solutions
There is a similar thread in this forum:http://ehealthforum.Com/health/topic 37035.Html

they suggest accupuncture or homeopathy products may have 90-100% success. The thread is about utricaria but the symptoms are similar to ours. Any thoughts?

Nervous Rash
I get this nervous rash everyday. It can be when im nervous, anxious or embarrased. It can also happen when I feel totally fine. The more I worry about it happening, the more it happens. My doctor was rubbish and so I have been looking into alternative therapies and am going to try hypnotherapy this week as I have read this can help by controlling something in your subconcious. Will let you know how it goes. If all else fails, the dermablend sounds good. Have got the rash just while typing this!!

Other Symptons?
Hi
i too get these rashes but had put them to the back of my mind until chancing upon these stories from all of you out there! Such a lot of entries...
I have been concentrating on improving some other probs I get by trying bowel cleansing!! These are: acne, psoriasis, low energy and some constipation (hardly ever go).

Well, then I remembered the rashes and basically wondered if any of you have any other symptons you think might be connected to this nervous rash. Knowing you can control it is half the battle won.

I realised not going (pooing!) every day at least once left me feeling poisoned by toxins and I now feel drinking more water or green tea and aiming to have healthy bowel movements has definately left me feeling on top of the rash thing, less anxious.
I'm just putting out feelers as I read their is no cure for this prob other than that drastic operation to cut nerves or something.

Also there's talk of oxygenated water being great for purifying blood and giving good circulation which sounds like it may help...I'm still experimenting.

Rash!
Hey, I found this forum this morning when I wanted 2 know why the hell I get this rash.. I have been gettin it for about 5 years I think, I get this huge red blotchy rash over my chest, neck, sometimes my face! My skin is so light that it is just the most embarrassing thing wen it flares up. I get it wen i'm uncomfortable around ppl I dont know, wen im nervous, anxious, hav 2 do a presentation, giv my opinion, or faced with an unexpected situation - wot boggles me is that I can get it wen im hot too, e.G. Wen I use the hairdryer or in the bath?!

One example of my rash was about a month ago, I had my review at work - nothing to worry about as I scored the highest I could have, yet wen I came out every1 was treatin me like an invalid - 'omg r u ok? Whats that? Go look in the mirror! ' I just dont know how 2 react wen it happens, I mean its not like you can say 'oh yeah I get this wen im nervous' bcos then ppl can tell wen u r nervous all the time and that makes it 100 times worse! I get it also wen I think im gona get the rash & bcos ppl r gonna c it!

Its just the most unbearable thing, its like wearin ur emotions on ur chest all the time! I try 2 4get about it but it doesnt help wen ppl stare and ask what it is..My mum thinks I should take antihistamines everyday but these make u drowsy and that cant b good! Ne1 found a cure yet, the 1st post on here was 3 yrs ago..There must b an answa out there by now lol..

Rash
I posted a reply on this forum a few weeks ago. Since then I have had a course of hypnotherapy, been taking antihistamins everyday (not the drowsy ones - clarityn are good), have cut out drinking tea which seemed to heat up my whole body and have tried cutting down on alcohol (not to much success - I love partying too much!). I feel loads better and have noticed that I get the rash so much less. My hypnotherapist reckons it will take time to totally get rid of it but taught me how to do the hypnotherapy myself and suggested to do it for a couple of months. I also got some of the dermablend which gives me the confidence to not worrying about the rash cropping up unexpectedly - I am a secondary school teacher so have to deal with stressful situations all the time. Am now much more hopeful about the future and unlike my last post on this forum I havent got the rash while typing this out... Hurrah! P.S another tip I discovered is to wear some fake tan if you are pale skinned as the rash is much less noticeable. Good luck everyone!!

Aaaaaaaah I suffer from this rash. But it wasn't until I saw my mum go like it once, that it started to happen to me.

People call it a nervous rash, but its more than that.

I get this from various things such as, nervous, excited, worried, heat, alcohol, in a rush, go to the doctor, conflict, get worked up in a conversation (whether in a happy or angry way)etc. Even when I have to make a phone call to complain about something or follow something up, I can get it. It can be accompanied by my heart beating faster and feeling like I am going a hundred mile an hour and can't slow down.

On my wedding day I had it before/during the ceremony. No one noticed it though, but I can faintly see it in some of my photos.

I am not embarrassed by it at all. When someone I know sees it for the first time, they say, amy, are you okay, you have this rash. And I just reply with yeah i'm fine, its just something that happens when i'm *insert above list*.

I get it on my chest, shoulders, back, neck, face.
