I wouldn't worry too much. I have the same problem, and have my entire life. I used to use prescription shampoos to try to get rid of the scales, but it didn't work, so I gave up. I have decided to just deal with it. My head itches a lot because of it, and I have a lot of problems with people (especially nurses when I was in school) thinking I have headlice. I haven't had any problems with it coming out onto my face, although if I don't wash my face enough my eyebrows will start to get dandruff-looking flakes in them.

Hope that helps.

It works at the moment and 1 hr later when your head dries up its back. Yes I actually gave up on trying to treat it and is still trying to learn how to face it ... As long as its no there for everybody to see its all good your reply had made me feel a lot better because I never knew anyone with this problem , I myself have never heard about dermatitis or psoriasis till this situation has occured! Yes, it covers my whole scalp, but it has never gone past my hairline. I recently got a really short haircut, which makes it more noticeable, but I decided not to worry about what people think. If someone mentions that there is white stuff on the back of my head, I just smile and say I must have used too much hair gel;)
it does go into my ears sometimes tho. Not like all the way down into them, but around the top, where the skin folds over, I get scaly spots. The doctor said that if I keep that area dry it would go away, but of course it didn't. I just try not to pick at anything, cause that causes me to bleed.
I'm glad that I could help you:d

Make sure you don't take too hot of showers, the hotter the water the more it dries and irritates your skalp. In fact baths are easier on your skin in general. My bf has psoriasis on his scalp and he always uses dandruff shamp. It helps a little. They do have those surface shots now (topical sstuff is nearly impossible to get under your hair-i know cuz i've had eczema on my scalp b4). You should ask your doc. About the new shots.

What Is This Scalp Thing
I have this also. It drives me nuts. When I was at the skin doctor, he told me that it was keratosis of the scalp.

Your right becklyn, for saying not to take too hot of shower's. I break right out. I also break out with red blouches all of my face and very dry after an hour or so. The hard crusty stuff does not go to my face, just red blouches all over it.

It is very hard to get use too having this. If you keep your hair washed and don't let it get greesy at all,,,,,,it does clear up a bit.

The eyebrow thing,,,,,yes I get that too,,,,,my whole face get's dry and cracky.........But mainly around my scalp area.......Keep your face washed and keep the oil away.

Have a great day

Seborrheic Dermatitis - Itchy Scalp - Hope This Helps You
Hi monica,

i totally know what you you are goign through. I had a real bad cause for flaky dandruff well so I thought until I went to see my doctor. He then told me that I had seborrheic dermatitis or in my own words a real annoying itchy flaky scalp.

He recommended I use nizoral and coal based shampoos, but I found some of them made them worse.......

After scrathing and using numerous products overr a few months a friend of mind whom also had the same problem recommended that I visit and download the sd program from a website called Refreshedskin.Com

at this stage I would have done anything to make my seborrheic dermatitis go away and so I followed the program from the site and now I have a beautiful fresh flake and itch free scalp.

Just thought I would let you about my experience and the site!

Good luck

liz

Flacky Sclap
I read your articles about dry scalp which i've had for years and thought there was some light when I saw a web site address ref a program d/load. However this site seems to have moved or shut down, can anyone tell me what the program contained please.

I'm so ashamed with how dry my skin is that anytime someone walks near me I think they must think i'm unclean. If I wash what little hair I have I know it's only a matter of minutes before I can feel my skin drying out and leaving clumps of dry skin, this also happens if I get caught out in the rain and if i'm away from home at work I know what's going to happen.

My doctor said "yes dry skin" and gave me the normal coldtar shampoo which made it worse not better. I was then told that people have this condition all their life, well i'm fed. Someone please help me thanks

Scalp Thing
Buy vitamin e in the capsules, 400 iu snip the tips off several of them and mix them with a small amount of blue star ointment and vasaline (petroleum jelly). This is thick and smelly but massage this concoction directly onto your scalp. Try using it when you can leave it in a while maybe overnight and part of the day. The thing is to oil your scalp and stop it from being dry. Most african americans already do this and really don't have dandruff or scalp issues. I am 50/50 b&w but my daughter had this problem. Her scalp would ooze and then turn into a hard cap. I discovered that when I used this combination the condition cleared up and now she hardly ever has a re-occurrence at 27. Vicks can be used in place of the blue star. It is great for killing ring worms too. Be sure to get the e capsules. The stuff in the bottles doesn't work. Good luck

Also for your body parts like arms and legs just rub the oil from the vitamin e capsules all over. You should see improvement within a week. You will peel and then get fresh skin. When the problem re- occurs or even before use this again. To stop acne break outs use only soap that is french milled or english, these are usually made form vegatable/plant fat never use anything that contains animal fat. I find the best, cheapest and easy to find are the "yardley" brand. Find one scent you like and stick to it for your entire body especially for your face. Regular soap should never touch your face and most of the acne products in the store is formulated to keep you coming back for more so although you see some improvement you still experience breakouts. After using the same soap for aboout two weeks your body will get used to it and your skin will clear up. For those who have other problems like dry skin please remember to use the e capsules because the soap, although wonderful is going to leave you dry.

I know exactly what you are talkign about. Im 16 years old now. I have had psoriasis for about 3 years now. Mine started out as a small patch on my scalp then more patches became of it. I now have psoriasis on my scalp, neck face(forehead and chin), ears, chest , belly, leg and back. It covers over 40% of my body. Its hard to deal with at first especially when people start asking questions. But you learn to deal. You learn how to talk to people about it. If you ave any other questions...Dont hesitate on emailing me.

Dry Skin
After years of suffering from very dry head skin which nothing has helped i've found some relief is using a product called "skin so soft" made by avon. Intially when applied one feels a slight burning sensation which is harmless and goes very quickly. Give it a go, it may help you!

Scalp thing
Recently I noticed that my hair was rapidly falling out and that my scalp was coated with scaly film and through out each nite it seemed to cover my entire scalp and behind my ears and even creep down onto my forehead!! It was unreal and noone i talked to had ever seen anything like it. I finally got into the doctors and he said that it was caused from stress and prescribed me Nizotrol and something else cant quite remember i will add it when i go home...he also said that there is a fungus that naturally lives on everyone body and stress or a change in diet can cause an imbalance resulting in this fungal infection! As a result i have lost three quarters of my hair that was to my waist...all from stress loosing my hair is a whole lot of stress in itself!!

I am a 59 year old type 2 diabetic. I have developed a hard crusty layer on my scalp. I have picked it until it bleeds, and sometimes, it oozes and runs a pus-like liquid. When it run down my scalp, it hardens. I have an uncontrollable urge to pick the crust off, bit-by-bit. I comes right back in the same places everyday. The crust is red, sometimes yellowish, and feels like it is infected. My doctor has tried Oxycillin for 15 days, and now I am using Lamisil shampoo to see if it will clear my scalp up. I also have tender lumps on the crown of my head, and suffer from very painful headaches, and a very sore scalp. My doctor has also done bloodwork on me recently, but I don't know the results yet....appointment next week. I also have similar sores on my arms and hands....they itch, create a sore that runs and oozes a pus-like liquid, and scab over as well. My compulsion to pick at these sores is a condition that I have had for about 15 years. Dermatologists I have seen in the past don't know what it is, and so they use the generic diagnosis of " Prurigo Nodularis", or PN. PN is not a very well researched skin condition, and there are thousands of sufferers out there just like me. If you can help, write me. Thanks in advance. Have a great day.....if you can.
