pain right under my left shoulder Posted: 09-26-04 22:27pm
hi
everyone i'm 19 year old female that for
the past 8 months I have been having back
pain right under my left shoulder blade
that sends sharp stinging pain constantly
and then when I breath it feels like my
spine is getting pulled and sat on at the
same time. On a 1 to 10 scale. My
constant pain is a 8. I have had to quit
my job and move back in with my parents
because I can't work. I had my gall
bladder removed on thanksgiving day last
year, then in january the back pain
started, followed by being diagnosed with
mono in april and in may I was diagnosed
with hypothyroidism. I'm taking synthroid
for the thyroid, zanaflax at night for the
pain and currently have been trying
lidocain patches on my spine to see if
that relieves any pain. It has been
making my back burn more then anything so
i've discontinued that method. I had
lidocain also injected into my scars from
my surgery, the physical medicine
specialist I am seeing thought it could
have damaged the nerves. Wrong! It hurt
like god only knows and no relief at all.
The next thing is neuronton a nerve
blocker in pill form. I know how some of
you feel not wanting to be a medicine
junky believe me. I take 3 to 4 different
pills just in the morning and muscle
relaxers or anti-inflammatory drugs don't
work either just make me very sleepy.
Does any one know what it could be I would
really like to hear your opinions. I'm so
depressed and lost thanks!

Get an x-ray, mri,and see what is the
matter. I hope that your surgeon talked
to you about the possibility of blood
clots in your lungs after surgery. Just
get a good exam from a Dr. You trust if
you still trust them. It is hard if
they listen to your systems while writing
in your clipboard. Get some blood
tests, ask for the rheumatoid arthritis
test. What surgical scars? You had
gallbladder surgery, didn't they just do it
through your belly button.

Middle & Lower back pain after 3 shoulder surgeries Posted: 05-06-08 01:08am
I am a 55 y.o. male 6' 230 lbs with
permanent injuries to my right shoulder. I
caught a 60 pound kitchen cabinet that
fell from a delivery truck in a twisting
motion to the right while standing
slightly to the left of the cabinet.
Although I saved the cabinet I managed to
tear up my shoulder. I have had three
surgeries from two doctors and four
different opinions but I may need a fourth
surgery.
As a result of holding my shoulder and
right arm tense to keep my shoulder in
socket and guard from pain my middle and
lower back pain has become a problem. My
long tendon is severed, my bursa was
removed and my acromiun bone was ground
down, my tendon at the front of my
shoulder where a pectoral transfer would
be done was 50% torn and now is 100%
severed according to an MRI, my rotator
cuff was perforated stretched and repaired
also has a small tear at the back above my
shoulder blade but not repaired. Muscle
group retraining therapy was recommended
to avoid any more surgery but that is not
going so well.
Since starting muscle group retraining
physical therapy to strengthen all the
muscles around my shoulder injuries my
physical therapist discovered that my
middle spine is jambed to the right
causing my right rib cage to push up on my
shoulder blade giving me pain in my middle
back with muscle spasms in the area below
my right shoulder blade. My pelvis is
slightly twisted to the left and my right
hip is slightly lower than my left. When
my physical therapist works on the muscle
groups around my lower spine and realigns
my hips and sacrum I get chronic aching
pain in my lower back above my buttocks
and my right hip, my left front thigh gets
a pins & needles and numbness feeling.
When I get out of bed in the mornings my
knees feel like they are going to buckle
and my lower back just aches with pain.
This shoulder issue has been going on for
2 1/2 years and after one arthroscopic and
two open surgeries I still have 4 to 6
pain at times when I try to lift my arm
over my head or extending my arm out in
front or reaching outward to the side or
behind me. I cannot lift my arm any higher
than my shoulder. When my physical
therapist extends my arm over my head I
get pins & needles and numbness in my
middle & ring fingers. My questions
are; is my shoulder injuries responsible
for my back problems or perhaps catching
the cabinet in the manner as described
above could have damaged my back? My
workman's comp doctor has released me to
return to work with a 5-10 lb push pull
lift restriction on my right dominant arm
and says the back issues are not related.
Since my workman's comp analyst has halted
my physical therapy and is disputing my
back issues should I go forward with a
fourth arthroscopic surgery to repair the
rear R.C. tear, clean up tissue and
relieve any impingements in hopes of
reducing the pain in my arm? Is it time to
throw in the towel?
