Q: How Effective Are Pregnancy Tests?

Hi, for the past 4-5 weeks my breasts have been extremely sore and the veins on them have been a bit mor prominent then what i'm used to. I did two tests around 3 weeks ago (my last period was around 2 months ago now) both of which were negative. However, a friend of mine has told me that my hormone may not be strong enough, could this be true? I used to have pco but was cleared quite a while ago and my periods have pretty much been regular.
I have also been experiencing quite a thick, milky (sorry!) discharge.
Could these possibly be syptoms that I could be pregnant?
Thanks

It is very possible to be pregnant and the test not show it. A blood test will let you know for sure.

I think that's the same situation i'm in. It's been two months since my last normal period. I've had almost all the symptoms of pregnancy including one positive test out of like ten. I noticed my stomach is getting bigger too and after two months my white mucous is back which I normally only get right before a period. I have the whole vein thing too and sex feels so different now. So I think hpt's are probably not accurate. I've still not gone to the doc though because of insurance that kicks in october 1st.

Yeah, I don't doubt that they weren't it's just with me my levels are probably too low to detect. Although I got one positive from first response, but all the others were negative. I still have symptoms too. The most noticable is my tummy started sticking out a little.

Quantitative blood tests are usually more accurate than hpt's are, but even they can be wrong. My sister got a negative blood test, and later discovered that she had been five and a half weeks along when it was taken!!!

There's absolutely no reason at all to not trust pregnancy tests. If one comes up negative it's usually because the woman doesn't have enough hcg hormone in her system. So if you take one and it's negative but you *still* have a feeling you're pregnant, go to a doctor and find out for sure.

False positives from hpt's are very rare. They usually only happen if you're on some kind of hormone replacement therapy containing the hcg hormone.
