Q: Question Before Getting Shot

Hey , my boyfriend and I have been together for about 2 years and have been having unprotected sex pretty much the whole time. I know pre-cum can get you pregnant, luckily I havent gotten pregnant --is that common?--but lately have been getting paranoid so we both decide I should get on birth control. I'm planning on getting the shot soon. I have a few questions before doing so. Does it matter if i'm on my period or close to when I get the shot? Does it matter if he cums inside me or could I still get pregnant from that even tho i'm on the shot. If I remember correctly I have to wait at least a week after the shot before having sex, right?
Please respond soon. Thank you
ashley

You have to either be on your period or just off your period for the nurse to give you a shot. I was on depo-provera for 6 months and my husband and I didnt use any other form of birth control he came inside me every time. You only have to wait a few hours for the shot to be 99.9% effictive. But girl dont do it.....I was on a very heavy period for the whole 6 months and had vaginal dryness other wise then the period. The pads/tampons cost a fortune omg I thought I was going nuts with the period. Thank god I stoped depo-provera and got on the pill I am now on tri-levlen 28 but I am have some probels from it as well but that god a constant period isnt one of them.

Hey thanks for the reply. Well I am not too worried about the side effects... I guess it would be a bad experience if that happened to me, but i'll never know unless I try it. I know side effects are different for everyone. If I start getting my period for too long lol I will stop getting the shot. For some reason I don't think that will happen because my period is weird anyway. Hmm hopefully that dont happen to me.
Well my sister is a nurse and she is going to give me the shot at home but (i know I should ask her this) but what if i'm not on my period/not expecting it for a lil while longer... Will it still work? Should I wait a week or two after the shot to have sex?

I would make sure you take it during or right after your period.. But maybe she can give you different advice. I would wait for it to kick in before having unprotected sex, just to be safe.
As for the side effects.. The first 6 months can be a pain and many don't wait it out long enough. I bled a lot during the first 6 months.. But after I took the 3rd shot (and I just recently took my 4th) I haven't had but one light period since!! So don't give up on it in the beginning because it can be worth it in the end. I had just as much dryness on the pill then I do now.
