Coloring Your Hair While You Are Pregnate?

I am about 5 1/2 months pregnate and in dire need of hair care. I've had varying opinions on coloring my hair. Any advice? Is it ok?

Are you going to be doing it yourself in your house? If so it should be fine as long as you have proper ventillation and some windows open.

What I was told when I was pregnant that the hair dye is absorbed through your blood stream, so you shouldn't. Each Dr. Says something different though. If you feel uptight about it, then don't do it. You look beautiful anyway, you're pregnant.

Dangerous Chemicals

Sorry to tell you this, but hair dye, nail polish, go to your baby.
The worst though is that all your cosmetics,(lipstick, blush, make up,etc) and your day creams, night creams, even the cream for strech marks, you probably use ,your shampoo,(and later your babys shampoo)have dangerous substances
the world health organization has stated a list(send me a fax number and ill send it to you...Or anyone else for that matter)but oh surprise, its not circulating enough.
It seems theres a law that protects the big companies,to put anything into their products as long as its written on the label...But who knows for instance what propylene glycol is and what it does?
Theres only 2 0r 3 companies in the world that make healthy products but I wont write them here because its like publicity and I dont think its right...
The thing is,all these chemicals get in your body and stay there...
I hope youll send me your fax so I can send you the list...

While I didn't experience any side affects from shampoo (not that I don't believe you), unnecessary products should probably be avoided if there is even a slight chance it puts your unborn child at risk. You want to always discuss these things with your Dr. So they will know what you're feeling and you'll know what's ok and what's not.

I don't actually know anyone who's child was affected by this, but it's always better to be safe.

Hope this was of help!!!

Actually farah, I have to agree, women are having healthy babies all over the world and still using shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and all the other hygeine products without any affects on the baby. While I do agree with lili on the harsher products such as hair dying chemicals being a risk to the baby, I just can't imagine not using soap etc to wash myself. Maybe you could suggest some alternative products in replace of shampoo and conditioners lili ? The thought of not being clean after a shower is a little daunting for me.

Regards,

.::suzy::.

Hi im back.
Just one quick thing.
Shampoos and other products are dangerous because they leave chemicals in your organism each time you use them, and in the long run they cause problems(wonder why so many people have cancer and other health problems after a certain age?)
as for asking doctors,...I would advise you to find a doctor who is not eager to push medication, one with a conscience who researches...
And maybe the world health organization has a web site and you dont have to take my word for it...

I Never Dreamed Suggesting You Shouldnt...

...Wash!!!
What a crazy idea?!
Of course there are alternative products, although I dont know wich ones you have in the states...
In europe we have weleda(im probably misspelling it),i think it comes from germany, and jurlique (australian)...I use the soap of welleda and shampoo, gum gel/toothpaste(useful for when the baby is teething too),and I take baby shampoo, shower gel, baby creams, shaving foam(for my husband),conditioner, lipstick, make up,deodorant, powder, and face soap from jurlique..
They are made of grown herbs(like lavender)with no pesticides, and no chemicals in the process of making the stuff..Thats why they have for instance shades of lipstick, only the ones found in nature(no pearls or fushia..Sorry)
but still if you get the list, you could do your own little enquiry and replace little by little all the dangerous stuff...
Its up to you to look into it.
I shared my knowledge,i am not interested in convincing anyone of anything...
I was grateful when someone shared that knowledge with me when I was pregnant of my daughter and I just want to do the same...
Good luck ladies, and take care of yourselves!

Not to get in on the product debate but hair dye is a no no for pregnant women, has nothing to do with ventilation, it is absorbed by the body and as you know everything that goes into your body goes into your baby's.

Hair dye cannot get into your bloodstream just through your skin. I have dyed my hair with all four pregnancies and read many places about it, it's completely safe. Of course the ventilation thing is important, go outside to do it if you have to... Good luck! Doctors know best by the way. I'm not one, but I have asked plenty of health professionals including my sister who is an rn and not one has said hair dye is unsafe!
