Ok, let me just clarify first that we're only 36th cousins, so it really doesn't count, but here's the story: i'm a huge genealogy buff. Right now michael's and my genealogy has combined 10,826 people! I had already known that michael was a descendant of charlemagne the great, king of france, but I found out today that so am i! We're 36th cousins 4 times removed! Lol. I think its kind of funny. We're not close enough to be gross or worried about genetic deformities, but its kind of neat!

What i'm saying though is that in 4.6 billion years of history, during 1 million or so of which humans have been around, our common ancestor is only 36 generations ago.

There are a whole bunch of genealogy websites where people post what they have found out about their own families:

http://ancestry.Com
http://genealogy.Com
http://cousinsconnect.Com
http://rootsweb.Com
http://gencircles.Com
http://geneanet.Org

those are some good ones to start with. There is never much information about people who are living, but if you know a grand parent or great grandparent and a couple of their relatives, you can find soooo much information! I started out by looking for my great grandmother, and only using those websites and other people's personal websites that I found using google, I found over 10,000 family members! I have traced mike's side of the family all the way back to adam and eve! No kidding!

Here is my fam tree: http://www.Gencircles.Com/users/espiceland /3
adam: http://www.Gencircles.Com/users/espiceland /3/data/10130

You don't know the name of one of your grandparents? Maybe your parents would work... But grandparents are better to start with.

some of them, but I don't use the parts of the site that you have to pay for like census's and stuff. Rootsweb and gencircles are the best absolutely free ones. And geneanet.Org is the one you use to make your family tree. Its the best for adding people.

Also its best to use maiden names for girls, so your grandma crumley, you'd have to find out her maiden name. Same thing for your great grandmother.
