Q: Financial Aid
asked by: FairyLexi on September 14th, 2004

I've been trying to get financial aid to go to college but I found out that I need to have my parents tax info and their background info. The problem is that I don't know any of that, my mom gets money from the state and I have no way of contacting my father. I don't think I could file as being an adult because I don't have any kids yet and i'm not married. So does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do?

I would just file independantly. My mom is dead and I act like I dont know where my dad is. Its too much of a hassle. ~erica.

It takes a long time to get any awards for school, why dont you just take out a loan. I am still waiting on my financial aid and I applied a long long time ago, and they told me today it could be another month. Sometimes they will go by whoever you live with or just yourself

First of all do you work? Over here in new york if you do not live fwith your parents for two years or more you could file as an independent person. But if you say that you have lived with them less than the two years then you still have to have to use your parents income. I say that I live with my boyfirend and that he supports me. According to them if your not legally married you don't have to show his income, but he does have to fill out some paper stating that he supports you and pays your bills. I'm not sure how it works over there but it doesn't hurt to try. Lie it's the best way to get it. What kind of assistence does your mother get? If it's any type of government help i'm sure you qualify.

No I dont work, I cant take out a loan cause I dont have any credit or money to pay back a loan, my mom gets government assistance I think she gets ssi. I live with my b/f and I guess you can say he supports me even though I get my own food cause I have a link card and medicaid pays for my doc visits and thats all I need.
