I don't know if my body just doesn't like bc or if it doesn't like me. I need to use it b/c me and my b/f are very sexually active. We always use condoms and he pulls out but I like to be sure. I have used ortho tri cyclen, levlen, and mercette and I have had complications with all of them. My friend suggested the shot and I heard you gain weight or sometiimes lose people are different but I don't want to gain weight, and I am not sure if I can use the patch b/c I am allergic to adhesive, so I don't know if I will have an allergy to it or not. I would like to hear from other people using different types of contraception so I can possibly base what I use. My problems with ortho tri cyclen was I gained 35 pounds and I ran every day and did more exercise than before because I couldn't keep the weight down, I quit taking it and 30 or so pounds vanished, so 6 months later I got on levlen and took it for 6 months and my boobs hurt so bad I couldnt' stand it, so my doc put me on mercette and I had a period every other week so I quit taking it and now I am going back to the doc in a week.

I've never had the shot because what concerns me about it is that you get 3 months of hormones injected into you...And what if your body doesn't like it? It's not like you can just stop taking it, it's in you already.

I stopped taking bcp because they really affected my emotions, I got very depressed, and tried a few different kinds, all the same. I was with my boyfriend at the time who became my fiance and now husband, so my doctor suggested the iud. It is not recommended for people with multiple partners, it can be very bad if you get pelvic inflamatory disease with an iud and you're at greater risk of a pid with multiple partners. But for monogamous relationships it's safe and effective. It does have a bad rap from the 70's but is currently a very effective form of birth control.

But if you always use a condom why not supplement with foam, or diaphragm, or there's a new spermicidal film that you insert before sex...That way you're doubly protected without taking bcp which don't seem to be working for you.

I had a lot of emotional problems on the pill, before I started the pill I was happy I laughed a lot and I just enjoyed life and then I got on the pill. I was in pain I didn't feel good, it made me have stomach aches and ohhh did it ever make my boobs hurt. When I started on ortho tri cyclen I went from small b to a d not a c a "d" and they hurt so bad. Now I am at a c cup, after I stopped taking ortho tri cyclen I lost most of the weight I gained and felt better. The reason I started the pill was b/c I stopped having periods, I freaked b/c at the time I had sex one time and I didn't have a period so what else would you think, i'm pregnant!! But I wasn't. I have never used a foam so if you could let me know, I would assume you could get the foam at a drug store with the other contraceptions but does this increase the chance of infections. Thanks for your reply to my post

Yes, foam is available at the drugstore with other contraceptives, it is only useful in preventing pregnancy, not the transmission of std's. Also it is not as effective as the pill and it is really recommended that it be used in conjunction with a condom. I've never heard that it causes infections, though I suppose you could have an allergic reaction to the spermicide that is contained in it.

There is also this contraceptive I used, just after having my iud removed, before we were trying to get pregnant, it's a spermicidal film that you put inside yourself, up to 15 minutes before intercourse, it acts the same as the foam, coats you with spermicide and in my mind was not anywhere near as effective as I wanted it to be so we used in conjunction with a condom.

I'd say what the other person said, try spemicides w/ condoms and such. Or try a diff. Pill or iud. Don't take the depo shot. I took it. Trust me, if you thought you had bad periods on mircette....Mine on depo lasted 5 weeks. And I only had one shot. Not pleasent at all and a lot of women on depo get that.
