Question About Toothbrush And Gums Posted: 09-13-04 14:58pm
I was wondering if a toothbrush can cause
damage to the gum around a tooth? I am
using one of those oral-b 3-d
toothbrushes. I have this one tooth on
the bottom that looks like the gum may
have roughed up and it has receded just a
little bit on one spot in front. The rest
of gums look fine. I take good care of my
teeth. The only thing I can figure as to
what happened to the gum is that the
toothbrush did it. Is there anything I
can do to push the gum back to where it
should be? This really concerns me.

It sounds like youhave what's called gum
recession. Most of the time it is caused
by aggressive brushing (weather you
realize it or not) if you are using an
electirc toothbrush, don't push hard while
brushing, also, let the brush do the
work!! You don't have to scrub back and
forth. If you are using a manual reg.
Toothbrush, all you need is just gentle
circles at the gumline- don't scrub in a
sawing motion, as well all do from time to
time. There is no way to make the gum
tissue go back to where it's suppose to
be. If you have anymore questions about
it go see you dentist- feel free to ask
here as well. Good luck.
