Q: Recurring Uti's...help!

I have been plagued with uti's (urinary tract infection) since becoming sexually active, about 2 1/2 years ago went through a whole spew of tests with urologist and they found nothing, just that i'm susceptible. I'll get one, go on antibiotics, it will clear up (confirmed with urine test) and then bam!, next time I have sex it'll be back.

I had it under control, was taking a septra (antibiotic) after intercourse and was pretty clear, only 1 a year...But I can't take septra now that i'm ttc (it inhibits absorption of folic acid) so here I am, in 2 months i'm now on my third uti, going to the doctors on thursday...

Anyone have such extreme recurring uti's? I drink lots of water, go pee before and after sex (but now i'm waiting about 15 minutes before I go...Wanna give some time for those little sperm to swim to safety before gravity takes over), and at the suggestion of my doctor I shower & wash up before sex too.

Help!!

I was actually in the same boat as you. I never had a uti in my life and once I became sexually active with my now husband I got three of them in less then a year. Everytime I felt one coming on i'd usually drink canberry juice or beer that would clear out my system and seemed to prevent it from coming on . Mind you if your trying to get pregnant you might want to stay clear of the beer. To be honest with you mine just went away. I havent had one in over 2 years it just up and left. Baths can cause them too. Other then that I really don't know what else to say. If your doctor can't help you I hope somebody can.

Thansk girrly, i'm going back to my family doc on thursday and will talk to her about it, then i'm trying a homeopathic doctor, hoping that will help.

I am trying the cranberry, and I always shower, no baths...I'd love if they just went away by themselves!

I dont know if anyone has told you this but it worked for me, uti's occur when dirt and stuff is pushed up inside, have a bath or shower before to be clean, if you both can (yeah right!!)no, I woud urinate right after sex, my husband would always remind me Laughing try it and see. Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions, i've been doing all that, there's one more thing my doctor and I discovered...I am a thong wearer, and that can cause uti's...So no more thong, have gone back to bikini's and women's low rise boxers.

Here's keeping my fingers crossed that this will do the trick!

I've been in the same boat! I started getting uti's a few years ago and they'll be fine for a while then all get a couple within a small amount of time. How annoying!! I just had one about a month ago, went to the doctor (what an annoying routine) took meds, went back to make sure it was gone and it was all cleared up. Now today I felt one and it seems to just hit you sometime. I am getting pretty frustrated too, because I've purposly been drinking a lot of water to try and prevent them (never really been too much of a water drinker) and doing the urinating thing with sex, bla bla bla. I don't think I've ever heard of the panty thing...I will try your advice! Thanks! Smile

I thought I'd just post that after reading some posts on here about trying Cranberry pills, I went out and got some and so far so good! I usually just take them if I feel odd like a bladder inf could be coming on or whatnot---as those of us who have had a few of them prob notice right away huh?!Smile I would recomment these too, for me they seem to help!

This board has really helped me. I've had recurring UTI's for 4 years now, since I became active. Always within 24hours of having sex. I've learnt to cope just by drinking lots of water but occasionally (about 3 times) they have turned into Kidney infections and I've taken a course of antibiotics. Im worried about eventually becoming immune to the antibiotics (taken about 5 times altogether) and was worried about eventually trying to conceive when I came upon this board.

Un-sweetned cranberry juice helps. Don't use soaps on the area, just water. Cotton underware. Low sugar diet (this sadly includes alcohol). Wipe front to back. No baths, (especially bubble baths). The lubricants/spermcides on condoms or not can cause irritation too. Also, if the opening gets damaged during sex it can cause problems.

Annoyed to think about all the times I've been to the doctors and never been offered any long term antbiotics or antibiotics to take straight after sex.
