Q: I Have a Question..

I very recently found out that I am pregnant, I am in my 11th week, my question is I have been violently ill the last 2 weeks or so, I cannot hold anything down, including water, I was hospitalized for dehydration for a week and kept on iv. They have given me lots of suggestions as to what to do but none of them seem to work. I was curious if anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it? Also is this harmful to my baby? Thanks

It can be harmful to the baby since the baby wont be receiving all of its nutrients and food. I had mornig sickness in my pregnancy but not to the point of hospitalization. My doctor offered me a prescription tho.. I cant quite remember what its called but it seemed to work for a few people. I hope u find something to help Smile

It could be harmful to your baby because your baby isnt getting any nourishment. Which means he/shemaynot be growing properly. But I wouldnt worry to much. As far as being sick goes, I dont know what to tell you. Except that you need to watch the medications your on, because some medications can be very harmful to your baby.

Have you tried vitamin b5? I had bad morning sickness too and got two different types of prescription medicine before I tried b5, and b5 was the only thing that worked! I took one 50 mg tablet once daily. You can get them over the counter anywhere.

You are preggy, in for dehydration and they released you? Not! I think you need to either check that story again or go see another doc!

I was checked in for dehydration, they ran tests and found out I was pregnant, I stayed for a week on ivs and I was released, I am not as bad, but I want to see if there is anything else I can do to prevent it. I am seeing another doc(my ob on tuesday) I was seen by an e.R. Doc

Chanda...Its normal to be released for dehydration after they rehydrate you. They kept her on iv fluids for a few days and i'm sure they ran tests to check fluid/electrolyte balance. Am I right? What suggestions did the doctor give you that arent working? The main thing is to try your best to eat and keep yourself hydrated. If you have signs and symptoms of dehydration again, then you need to get to the er immediately so they can start you on iv fluids. The doctor may be able to give you something to help with the nausea (an antiemetic like reglan or phenergan), but you would need to ask, because they sometimes arent safe during pregnancy. I hope things get better soon! Take care of yourself and let me know if I can help anymore!
