My 10 year old son has been having blood spots on his underwear. The dr did a urine test and it was negative for blood. He did end up having strep troat and was treated with an antibiotic. Yesterday there was blood again only this time he called me to the bathroom and I actually saw the blood coming out of his penis. So off to the dr we went for another urine test which again was negative. The dr keeps telling me not to worry since the test is negative, because that means there isn't a problem higher up in his urinary tract or kidneys. He does not bleed daily and it is not a heavy flow of blood. No matter what the test shows, I know I saw blood and I can't help but worry. Should we see another dr? What could be wrong?

I Need Some Help!!!!!!!!!
I need some help here!!! I am a 25 year old male and I noticed tonight when I went to the restroom that as I was urinating that it was not only urine but also blood as well. And the pressure in my bladder would not go away almost like my bladder was still full. I have noticed in the last 2 or 3 days that I have been urinating a lot more then usual. This is the first time that something like this has happened to me. I am not sure what is going on. But I am a bit scared about it. If anyone can help me out with this I would be most grateful. Is this a normal thing or am I getting some weird disease or something.

Hellsfury you need to go to a doctor. I think it might be a infection and if not treated then you could end up in the hospital

it has only happened today so far but I was just reading another site and it said to drink a lot of water at least a quart every 8 hours. That and I really hate doctors.

Plenty of water will help but if its a bad infection meds are needed or it will not go away and may become worse

hey thank you so much I went to a doctor today and I was given amoxicillan. They told me to take 500mg twice daily until the bottle was empty. And I am to continue drinking cranberry juice and water and to quit drinking so much soda. Thanks for your help!!!!!!

blood from penis
hello to the woman who posted about her son with the blood coming from his penis. did you ever figure out what it was?
my 9 yr. old son has the SAME THING. there are small drops of red blood coming from his penis after he pees. I took him to the dr who thought it was kidney stones and sent him for an ultrasound and the ultrasound came back fine - no problem with the kidneys. We are waiting to see a urologist.
My son says this has been happening for 5 MONTHS and only told me b/c i saw the blood and asked him. does anyone have any advice? he doesn't have any pain, feels fine and the doc says not to worry but I can't help it! I'm wondering if it has something to do with him not being circumsized?

my 9 year old went to the dr. today for the same thing we have to go to the urologist. he had to pee in a cup today no infection but worried why he is bleeding a little from his penis. I hope its nothing serious.

Looking to find out development of your son.
I like to know if your doctor has come to a conclusion of what his condition is and how to fix the problem. I would like to know since my 11 year old son has been living with this condition since for 2 years now. He have had 2 cystoscopies and 3 ultrasounds but no news is good news as we been advised. I appreciate you sharing your situation with me. Much appreciates.

Did you ever find out the conclusion to this? I have a 10yr old who just started having the same problem with small droplets of pinkish blood coming from his penis after he pees. He is circumcised so that can't be the problem and he's had 2 urine tests done, both of which came back perfect. Does this have to do w/boys growing or what? My doc also said for him to drink more water which does seem to help. I would greatly appreciate anything you may have learned or heard regarding this condition. Thank you!

To the lady who just posted a couple of days ago about her 9 year old son. I am having the same problem with my son. He just started yesterday having a little burning and blood coming from his penis. It's like a pinkish reddish blood when he wipes and its on his underwears alittle. I am really worried. We are going to the Doctors tomorrow. Have you found out what it is? I keep finding this stuff online and it's making me very nervous. He seems fine just but the blood is worrying him and me. Please email me and let me know if you found an answer yet. Thanks so much

thank you everyone for the advice - and thanks for the message dejay. i can understand your worry - the 1st night i found out i was up all night online and going crazy myself.
the doc made an appt with a urology specialist. he couldn't get in till july but i am calling to see if i can get a cancellation. my son has been having this for 5 months! and he's never had pain. i keep asking him if it's getting worse or if he's getting pain and he says no. my friend at work had the same thing with her son - he's not circumsized either so i really think it has something to do with that. she said she took him to a number of specialists over a year and nothing was conclusive - tests showed to damage to his kidneys or urinary tract and eventually it stopped (her son was about 5 when he went through it). of course it was tremendously stressful for her just in terms of the worry.
how old is your son? please keep me posted when you go to the doctor - i'm very curious to see if you had more luck than i did - but i guess no news is good news. the doctor did say not to be concerned (yeah - right) - but if it was something really shocking i'm hoping he'd be more reactive so i guess it is good news.

My 8.5 year old CIRCUMCISIZED son has blood also. It is only after he urinates and often leaves small drops of blood in his underwear. He has zero pain or burning.
5 months ago he told me about it and I freaked out after reading on the internet. I took him to a pediatric urologist. They did blood, urine, ultrasound and x-ray (tests) and there was no issue other than severe constipation. The doc showed me on the x-ray that he colon was backed up with stool. It was evident.
He sent me home, told my son to drink lots of water (we live in AZ) and to get fiber. He explained it that the colon being that backed up would rub against his urethra like a brillo pad creating an internal sore. Nothing to worry about, getting him "regular" would eventually correct the problem. The blood was from the internal sore.
It has been a full 5 months and he has had long periods of no blood, but recently I found his underwear with several spots, enough to make another appt. The doctor agreed and they are going in with a camera.
Has anyone else had a diagnosis? I am really nervous today.

hi. how did it go with the camera??? I can understand how nervous you are. I took my son to the pediatric urologist specialist (2nd opinion) and he said it's something very common with boys between the ages of 8 and 12 or so. can't remember the name of the 'condition' (if you post again and you are interested i'll find it for you) but he said it's when boys are growing and the urethra doesnt catch up as quickly or something. again - i took notes when i took him so i can fill you in further if you are interested. he says it typically lasts a few months and then goes away on its own and it's nothing to be concerned about. my son still gets the odd spot now and then, but its really slowed down compared to before. i will take him in again in about 3 months for another ultrasound just to be sure. he said most boys this age he sees in his practice is for this condition. email me again if you want more info. hope it all went well for your son!

my son is 9 years old,went to the dr. today cause of after urinating had some blood coming from his penis, i have been worried about it so tomorrow i have to call the urologist for an appt. this started 2 weeks ago my son said but didnt tell me til today when i seen the blood myself then off to the dr. we went. wonder why this is occuring and how we can prevent this. reading everyones post is reassuring that this is common, but still worry cause of the blood.

Hi,
I took him to the doctor last week, they did a urine test and it did test positive for microscopic amount of blood. The doctor did say that we should go in with a camera, just to be sure, but he is very confident in it not being anything significant. He ordered and xray and blood test (blood test with more work-up). Today my son had an xray and is having a blood test next week. He wants to wait on the camera until we get these tests back. He is feeling fine, no symptoms, has seen small drops about once or twice every few days (according to him). I check his underwear for spots and have not seen any.
He did not share that with me, about it having something to do with this age in boys and their growth rate in that area. I find that interesting. He does treat this issue like somewhat of a mystery. He told me that he has gone on with a camera many times and has actually seen the sore inside the urethra that is bleeding. So, your info. is a little different. But, something to consider, I will ask him about that.
My son has had some constipation problems and this issue started after him having cheese every day for many weeks, maybe months. I cut him off after the doctor told me about the constipation, but have allowed him to have more cheese lately. When the blood started again, he had a week of a lot of cheese. I am wondering if he is sensitive to it digestion-wise and it aggravates the issue.
I will post another note when I hear more about the x-ray. How has your son been doing??
Oh, and YES!! I would love to hear about specifically what your doctor told you. I would like to discuss that with my doctor as well. I have calmed down about it, but would love to put it all to rest at some point. Thank you for responding to my note. I appreciate it so much.

blood on my son's underwear
Hi, my name is tammie and this morning i was putting laundry in my washer, when i noticed blood in my son's underwear, but it was not just a few drops it's was a small pool of blood.i also have noticed my that my son is urinating more frequently, and every night he wakes up around 1-2am to use the bathroom,he is also having alot of accidents in his underswear as well.he is 6yrs. of age almost 7.do you know why this may have happened?

Son with Urinary infection and Bleeding
Hi... I have a 5 year old son... He is not circumsized. He has had 3 urinary infections back to back and the dr keeps putting him on antibotics and liquids...
I went to see a urologist the other day and they scheduled him to be circumsized next week... I was advised that I could cancel my appt for an ultrasound because he would no longer need it...
BUT now.... He came home from school today and told me he had blood when he peed... and again just now when he used the restroom..
Im nervous! He is not in pain and says it is not burning him right now but Im not sure if I should take him to the er being that its the weekend and I don't want to let this go on until I can get him in to see a Dr on Monday....

11-yr old son with blood in urine / on tip of penis
Hi, I know this is an old thread but my son (11 yrs old, uncircumsized) is also having rare occasions of blood from penis, at least enough to make the toilet bown a bit pink. I hate to ask something so obvious: couldn't it be from the foreskin itself----in other words a surface cut----not an internal condition? That is what I am hoping in my son's case but after reading all these comments I wonder if I am just being a bit of an ostrich. He did show me his penis, he squeezed the tip a bit and a few drops of blood came up. I *think* it was from the foreskin but not sure. Did you other moms know ABSOLUTELY that your sons' blood was coming from an internal source? Sorry to ask something so obvious.

Hi. My 11 years old son has the system for over 2 years. The bleeding is not from the foreskin. In is inside the penis (note from bottom describe by my son). Ultrasounds of kidneys and bladder is healthy. Issue still exists but note blood stain on underwear has lessoned. Hope will be gone as he is growing.
