I had severe tonsillitis which led to a tonsillectomy four years ago, I felt great after having them removed but after after some time started experiencing mild sore throats , and it looks red and irritated some times. There are also some little bumps when it is irritated. I know when I had them removed the doctor said they had to remove more tissue than expected and cauterized down to the muscle. I don't know if that has anything to do with it , like if my throat is more open to irritants.? I don't know. Anyone have any idea or experience with this? Any info would be appreciated ..Thanx!

Sore Throat years after Tonsillectomy
I still get sore throats after my tonsillectomy too. I was told that it wouldn't happen anymore. But today about 8-9 years after my surgery, I feel down for the count. My throat is itching, burning, and irritated. It hurts to swallow. It hurts to talk...and I'm losing my voice. I can't stand going to doctors or really using medicine so I've been trying to tough it out. But I do sometimes use throat lozenges which help for like 5-10 minutes but the burning and irritation are very persistent.

I think that others have had this happen to them but when they see a doctor nothing is really done.

Sore Throat after Tonsillectomy Recovery Complete
Going through the tonsillectomy was a BEAR at age 41 so I was looking forward to never having a severe sore throat again (as my doctor told me). After recovering from the surgery (which took longer than expected) I was pain free for four months. I just recently suffered a sore throat that was as painful as my pre-tonsillectomy sore throats. It lasted a few days and went away but I am now fearful of more future pain!
