I've never used any kind of birth control before other than condoms. I was thinking about going on the pill but I dont like the idea of irregular periods (mine is always regular), gaining weight, or losing my sex drive. Does the pill cost money out of pocket? Or does your insurance usually take care of it? If it does cost money how much is it? Are there any more methods of birth control that have less side effects? Has anyone had an experience using spermicide? What is it exactly and is it very effective? What is the patch? As you can see I know almost nothing about the different types of birth control so any information or advice anyone can give would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Birth Control
I have been on the pill for...8 years or so and it is the best thing that ever happened to me. My periods are regular and if I gained any weight it wasn't more than a few pounds. I haven't noticed any side effects at all. My insurance covers it, but not all do. Call your company to find out for sure. You should talk to your doctor and they will help you decide what method is best for you. Good luck! Smile

For peace of mind, you can't beat the pill.I was on it for 14 years.I was taken off after I turned 40 due to mentrual migraines. The newer low dose pills have little weight gain if any.Decreased sex drive can occur, but switching pills can help that.My periods were like clockwork on the pill and almost to the hour on arrival!I miss my pills!I don't have any experience with the patch, but do know someone who was on it.She had an allergic reaction to the adhesive, but loved the convenience of it.See your doctor to get more info and see what method is right for you.Insurance is required by law in illinois to cover bcp's.That went into effect this year, before,it was all out of pocket, but well worth the cost!!Good luck.Patty
