Q: Blue Veins & Sore Breast?!?
asked by: Timiyah on September 1st, 2004

I have blue veins across my chest (not breast), my breast are sore, my areola is darkening, my legs cramp (when in bed), frequent chills, lower abdominal pain. I had unproetced Wink w/ my honey in august for 4-days straight. On the 3rd day, my breast started feeling sore, it has only worsen as of now. I noticed the blue veins about 1 week ago. I got off depo in april '04, haven't had a menstrual cycle for 2 years. I bled off and on may thru the 1st week of august. Are these early signs of pregnancy?

Girl if you haven't had a menstrual cycle for two years than it's going to be really hard for you to have a baby. You should go see a doctor and tell them that you haven't had your cycle for two years. That's a long time. I was told not to worry about having a child as long as you have pretty normal cycles. I would definatley talk to your doc. Wink

I Went 2 the Dr. & Still Not Satisified
I was told, by not having a menstrual cycle while on depo is natural. No, I haven't had a cycle in two years (& loved every minute of it). But since i've stopped w/ the depo injections as of apr. '04......I started bleeding from may to the beginning of august off and on. There were no sore breast, cramping or anything. Until my love muffin and I Wink in august. Now, I am feeling all types of symptoms. Question: why am I getting symptoms now, when I should've gotten them for those 3-months of my off and on cycle? This is throwing me off big time. Help a sista out. I went to the Dr. I was told its either a hormonal imbalance, impending menstrual or I could be pregnant and to wait b 4 another preg. Test.

Okay I thought you said that you hadn't had a period for two years after you got off depo. So I was wrong....Umm I think your doctor would be right because you can get symptoms from being hormonally imbalanced. I would wait it out. Two years is a long time to be on dope so it's probably that. However, assume your pregnant until you know for sure.

More 2 It Than Just That........
Thanks for the advice pitterpatter....The Dr. Told me that by a woman taking her very 1st depo injection is equivalent to a woman who has been on it for 3 years, such as myself. I was amazed by that, but I still have my doubts. I feel that I am pregnant, currently, my stomach has been feeling kind of heavy. I know most of it has alot to do with the 3 32oz bottles of water that I consume daily. But, once the wells has emptied for the day, I still feel this way. I have checked for the "darkening" line below my belly button to the pelvis area..There is a slight darkened line there. I am not sure if it was there prior to noticingmy body changes or not. I have noticed the darkening around the adges of my areola. I am not sure if that's a sign, my nipples are about the same color the :d . What do u think?

I still think it's probably hormonal imbalance. The line thing wouldn't show up I don't think until later. All the symptoms you describe are pregnancy symptoms. However being on depo can cause that to happen as well. Seeing how it's tricking your body into thinking your pregnant. If your pregnant I would think a test would show up as positive by now. Try that and see what happens. However, it sounds like your having a imbalance. Maybe someone else on here knows what may be going on. Good luck though! Let us know what happens.

I have a friend who was on the shot, and every time she was due for another shot she would get pregnancy like symptoms. I know you said you stopped it in may, but maybe your body is just getting use to not being on it. You were on it for two years, thats a long time and you body was use to having those shots in you. I would just ride it out and see what happens.
Also, if you (which I have done plenty of times) stress your self out about it, you will give your self these symptoms. Its called a "phantom pregnancy". I do it all the time, if I missed a pill or something, I will stress myself out, and every little thing I will say is a symptom, just becuase I want it to be. You know what I mean? Well anyways, you just have to see what happens and keep in touch with your doctor if you notice anything too irregular.
Good luck, and keep us posted! Wink

I Hear U But a Sista Is Going Symptomatic Crazy!!!
Thanks bigmaksmom....Yes, I have hope. I just find it strange for my body to go through these changes after I stopped bleeding. I assummed, since it started and carried through and passed my scheduled injection...The depo was removing itself from my system. 1 to 1 1/2 weeks later, we Wink , a few days afterwards I started getting these symptoms. I understand that it takes a few months to a year for women to get preg. After the depo. But, I also have a friend who said his mother was on the depo and had gotten preg. W/ him. I also, understand that ever womens' body is different. How long is a hormonal imbalance process? Can my sore breast and other symptoms go on until I actually get a real menstrual cycle?

It depends on the person. Some women may get symptoms for the first month after being on depo and some women may get symptoms longer than that.

This Will B the 2nd Time Trying to Get Pregnant
Well the blue veins are still visible, my bb's are still sore. I have taken a hpt and it was -. Kind of disappointing, but I still have hope in this. I have not gone to take a blood test. My luvmuf'n are going to try this again in about two weeks. I am going to start taking mucinex again (to thin my cervical mucus, so the little Wink can make it to the Wink ). Right now my cervical mucus is thick and sticky, I figure, if I start taking the mucinex now, my chances will be greater within two weeks. I am also interested in clomid (to help ovulate/become fertile), I have gone to planned parenthood...They don't prescribe this from their facility. Does anyone know where I can obtain clomid or a generic brand? I am kind of desperate right now. I don't want to get my hopes up high, like I have done for the past three weeks with the symptoms I currently have. Help a sista out? Please!

Before you take clomid or mucinex or anything else, please read my response to your other post.

Also note regardless of taking these drugs, after stopping contraceptive injections it can take a year or more for normal fertility and cycles to return.

Don't rush things honey, just take it as it comes, and do be sure you are not already pregnant before taking naything that may thin your cervical mucus - this is your baby's first defence barrier if you should be pregnant.

Still Uncertain About It
What are my chances of finding out the true facts from a blood test,if I take one vs the hpt and planned parenthood preg. Test? How effective is a blood test? If no hormoanl levels are picked up from the preg. Test, what good is the blood test right now? It'll be a month after ttc as of the 15th.

Honey, false negatives seem very common.
My adive would be keep trying to concieve (but without the aid of drugs like mucinex). Sex won't harm your baby, but if you thin your mucus, this may well result in a loss.
Take extra care and keep us all updated Wink
