I am 40 and just diagnosed with mononucleosis yesterday. My symptoms started a week ago with sore throat and fever. I was wondering if I could have gotten it from my new boyfriend of three months. He doesn't remember ever getting mono. He thinks I have been kissing someone else but I haven't. Don't know how else I could have gotten it. He is upset with my diagnosis but wants to take an ebv test if needed. He has a teenage daughter and doesn't want to pass it on to her.
Also, is it possible that my incubation period was eight weeks? Thanks, worried

When I had mono my doctor had no idea where I got it from. No one else in my school had it and no one in my family had it. My doctor drilled me about who I had been around, places I had been, things like that. Most likely I caught it out in public - you probably did too.

Well I got glandular fever (mononucliosis) about 8 months ago. I have no idea where I got it from either. It is known as the kissing disease because teens usually get it. Im 21 and have had a bf for 3 yrs and I def hadnt been kissing other pple, maybe u got it from a shopping centre, maybe someone sneezed near u or something like that. I was in bed for 6 months so I guess by the time I could actually get out of bed my bf had forgotten all about thinking id been kissing other people.

Well, I finally figured out how I got mono. After seeing another doctor, it was decided that because my daughter had strep throat six weeks earlier (passing it on to me) that the strep activated my mono. My boyfriend never got it. I am doing much better now. I had a rough week or two, feeling tired and sick but after that I was fine except a few episodes of crashing in the middle of the day. I rode my 4-wheeler one day and a little later I was very sick. I think that staying rested and keeping your body quiet during mono is very important. Also, my dostor stressed how important it was to take vitamins and drink lots of gatorade to keep my potassium level normal. Also, 8 hours of sleep every night!!!
Any questions out there? Just ask...
