Hey, I just joined so I could answer this question.

I have my consultation for this op on the 7th july, going privatly so I should be in within a few weeks.

I tried to get it on the nhs, but you need to be a child. I.E under 16.

The operation costs £1800 and around £100 for a consultation. I cant wait to finally wear my hair up! ;)

Hello

first may I was almost 18 when I had the operation free on the nhs. I guess it solely depends on your individual trust and yourown case I guess.

If your ears bother you that much and you can't afford the costs, go to your doctor, it's worth a try.

I sat with my doctor, he asked me what was up, I burst into ears, told him how sick I was of mystupid ears, immediate referral. I went to the consultation, immediate referal for the operation. It solely depends how distressed you are and I was distressed.

The operation was, unofrtunately unsuccessful. The pain was quite bad in my case, lots of throbbing for hours on end, the tablets didn't work well.
Despite this, myears looked great after I had the bandages taken off. Then a few weeks later, my ears started to move forward again. I'm not kind of in square one again.

I'm 18, going university in september, no money, want my ears done again... What do I do? Wait until i'm in a full time job? I can't do that, I want it not to be an issue now, I don't want to live through my university experience with ears on my mind. Therefore I want the operation.

I'm going try the nhs again, but to my new doctor at university, see where that gets me. If not, then I guess it's the lottery, or i'll have to save mystudent loan and not go out - if I want it that bad, i'd do it.

are you from the uk?

The nhs is the uk's national health system, where it's funded my the tax payer.
It does sound like your ears bother you as you wouldn't be bothering to deliberately cover them up all of the time.
If you go see your doctor and explain your situation, tell them your ears bother you because yhey stick out too much and you're under a lot of stress. You could get a referral to see a consultant, who will then give you a date for the operation. This will be done under the nhs which means you won't have to pay a penny.

hey, it was hard for me to tell my mother too and i'm 18.

I strongly advise you not to go anywhere while you have the bandages on. You will probably have to wear it for about a week. You can go school immediately after you've had the bandage off.

I hope you manage to tell your parents and they full support you. If they don't, ask your aunt or uncle for example if they will take you to the doctors. Let them know how you feel. The quicker you've done it the better and the environment you live will be more understanding of you.

Hey People
Hey,

i always had people commenting or making jokes about my ears, and when I finally officially decided that I wanted to go through with getting them pinned back, I told a few of my close friends about it, and they said "your ears don't stick out that much". I've been called a monkey countless times in my life, by variously aged people! And I grew quite sick of it, it made me feel as if people were not taking me seriously for who I am. The fact that people were saying all these things about my ears, then afterwards I have people saying to me you don't need to get your ears pinned back really annoyed me. It's like I can never win.

I realised that when people made 'jokes' or judgements about my ears sticking out too much or being too big, they had to to think in heir mind that they actually thought that in the first place to make the joke or comment, and yet...They still say they didn't mean it, but they almost had to mean what they said about my ears because the idea of whatever they said about my ears was thought in their mind. And even if they didn't mean it, they still said it so the point of my ears sticking out too much becomes apparent.

Anyway I had it done 5 days ago and i'm still wearing the bandage, I have had irritation from the fibres of the material, so it depends on what material they give u for the bandage. It drove me mad being so desperate to itch or scratch, but this is only because the scars are healing where they cut open the ear to re-arrange the cartilage. I have read on the internet that after a few months people that had it done would notice their ears sticking out slightly more again after the operation, is this true?

i hade my ears pinned back when i was in my 3 year of school so i was about 8, my ears a severly outstanding.. i havent seen anyone with ears like mine.. they werent to bad in the first place, after i had the op. i cant remember if my ears were back for a while, but all i know now is that they were made worse; they now stick straight out and curl at the top, with some scars/vains at the back. May have just been the surgeon..

i was soo unbalievably nervouse but the oporation went great and the staff was lovely ,x
They Kept me well drugged up to make sure i didnt have and pain, Hehe
