Amniotic Band Syndrome ((disturbing Picture))
Posted: 08-26-04 12:25pm

Well I just got back from the clinic, I picked up my referall to go to the hospital for a sonogram ..On the referal it says under symptoms/diagnosis-amniotic band syndrome...So I did some research on what this is about and it is the most upseting thing I have ever had to deal with...

Definition: amniotic band syndrome is a set of congenital malformations ranging from minor constriction rings and lymphedema of the digits to complex, bizarre multiple congenital anomalies that are attributed to amniotic bands that stick, entangle and disrupt fetal parts.

If you want to see the fetus that had amniotic band syndrome its on this website Crying
or Very sad

The dr says that the band isnt near the fetus and that the baby is moving normally I have no idea whats going to happen when I go to the hospital but I have experience with complications from when I had my miscarriage they try and sugercoat everything...This is the worst thing that could ever happen to a pregnant woman and it figures it would happen to me... The baby can either be born with missing body parts totally f'd up looking like a massacred corpse..Stillborn,,,,or die a few dayss after birth...If u have this syndrome they offer an abortion because its so horrible... I think this is going to put me in the psych ward of the hospital rather then the maternity ward.

Shayna we are all here for you no matter what happens. I'm sorry you have to go through this. Did your doctor actually diagnose it, or just say that it may be a possibility?

She just said that on her sonogram there was a band and I have to go to the hospital because they have better sonograms there... But im sure that shes right...On monday ill be 100% sure of whats going on...((she didnt even tell me that it can wrap around the baby and cause physical deformities/but who wants to be the barrier of bad news))

Yea maybe the sonogram was f'd up but I dont want to tell myself that everythings going to be okay ...Because I did that last time I was pregnant and it was more upsetting when it wasnt all good.Im trying to be prepared for the worst. Thank you everybody for your concern I will definately let everybody know what happens on monday.

Or it could be just a mild one that won't have any effect on the baby.

Im sorry to hear that, but I sure everything will be ok. When I got an u/s done, they found this thing in the heart and they said its common in babies with downsyndrome, and they offered me an amniocintesis, and an abortion if she did have down syndrome, I turned both down, and said I will deal with w/e god gives me. At my next u/ after that, they told me that they dont know what the spot was, but its gone now. My word of advice~ believe in god, and trust in him that he wont give you anything you cant handle. If dont ever doubt him, everything will be ok.
