Info About Health Insurance In the Individual Market
Posted: 08-18-05 12:48pm

Hi everyone,

i wanted to help everyone out so that perhaps some things about health insurance can be cleared up. As we all know, the days of group insurance being a "free" benefit is long gone. Going forward, we can expect to take on more of the financial risk of our health care. There are many factors that cause this to happen, and although I am not saying that insurance companies are not as concerned about whether you truly understand the policy you are bying [in the individual market], I am saying is that people who have abused their health insurance (for example: waiting to buy health insurance until they need it, then filing a claim before really paying into it, then canceling their policy) are also responsible for the hike in health care costs as well as the strict nature by which insurance companies determine who is an acceptable risk or not.

My advice to everyone shopping around is to understand that the insurance industry is a heavily regulated industry. Your agent is not a sales person, but rather an educator, and you should buy from the agent that explained the policy to you to the point that you understood how to use your insurance when and if you have to. The fact is that there is no such in surance out there that is cheap, and also good insurance.
Please do not make the mistake of thinking that your money is wasted either. You should not be insurance poor, but also consider what insurance was intended to do: protect you from financial losses that would otherwise be catastrophic to you and your family to the point where you are bankrupts or even worse than that, homeless.

Many people spend their money on items and things that will not protect them from financial losses, and yet when it comes to buying insurance, everyone wants the "best deal". The only way to determine what is the best deal is to fully understand your benefits, maximums, exclusions and limitations. If you are buying for price, you will get what you pay for. Remember that if you put little into the reserve (small, cheap premiums), that is what you will get paid when a claim comes in.

Hopes this helps.

$750 Is Only the Beginning
Posted: 11-28-05 09:31am

We started at $750 about a year ago. It went up to $990.12 and this month, without notice, it went to $1200 month. These people are criminals. The government is sorry for not doing something to these crooks. What right do they have to steal 40% of my income and steal from my childrens christmas this year. Something must be done.
