Q: Help For My Dog

Ok here's the deal. My dog is a 7 year old german shepherd and she has arthritis. My vet prescribed her a pain medicine called meloxicam (brand name medacam), which does wonders for her when she is in pain. The only problem is that medacam is $25 for 10 mils when we buy it from the doc. We could get it for $9 for 10 mils from petmeds.Com if our vet would verify for them that we have a prescription, but she won't cooperate because she wants us to pay her the $25 instead. Will some of you from non-.U.S countries check and see if you can get meloxicam without a prescription and cheaper than $25 per 10 mils? If so, i'll pay for everything if you'll be willing to let me ship it to you and then you ship it to me!

Erin,

i have had a whole load of dogs and horses in my time. You know what done wonders for their joints and coat was cod liver oil. The vet was really worried about one of my ponies and I started getting her c.L.O for animals and she bounced back after a couple of weeks. Trust me you would see a differance. I give my little pooch it and he is 13 and has no joint problems.

P.S it's just a lil supplment not anything to replace the medication.

We have solvitax here, I htink you could probably get it there too!!

Yeah, we are feeding her glucosamine as a supplement for joint health, and it does a load of good, but every once in a while she has spells when she is in pain and the supplements don't help and she just needs something for the pain. That's what the medacam is for.

Do dogs yelp when they are in pain? How do they show it. We have a pretty old dog and i'm worried something may be wrong with his joints.

Well, I don't think the doc can do that. If the dog has a prescribed medication, it is her duty to write out a prescription for you and that is it. Then from there you decide on where to get it filled. I say tell her that you are going to report her, and get another doctor. Then wait to see what her response is. She just may cooperate. And if she doesn't you're better off with another doc anyway.

Dogs yelp if its like a quick hard pain like kicking them, but my dogs would whimpering and it sounded so sad, michael's dog wailed really loud for like 20 mins. Cuz he didnt know where his gramma was.

Animals have their own little ways of expressing their emotions. If you stand on your dogs tail he will yelp, but if had a sore stomach perhaps he would probably cry or hide away somehere and be very quiet and not really wanna move.
