Hi,

i am taking celebrex and my gp has told me that they dont know either way if celebrex is harmful to the baby while your pregnant.

As I would like to have a child soon, I would like to hear from anyone who has been pregnant whilst they had arthritis. I have psoriatic arthritis and rely on the celebrex to be able to function normally each day.

Can you share with me what you took whilst pregnant and what you did to cope with the condition?

Cheers

What I Have Heard
Hi there!

I am an sle patient who suffers from disease induced arthritis and I have taken a lot of nsaids.

It has been my understanding that these type of drugs are often inhibitors of pregnancy. I have always been told by my rheumatologist & a high risk pregancy doctor that getting pregnant without any meds is always the best way.

And remember, no one is *ever* going to do trials on pregnant women. That is just unethical. So, the reality is that there is no way of knowing what may occur on that drug.

I hope this helps in some small way! Hugs,

I have ankylosing spondylitis and take celebrex
I suffer from AS and count on Celebrex to help me function normally daily as well. I got pregnant almost 2 years ago (have a beautiful one year old boy now) but was told i could not take celebrex while pregnant. The doctors told me i could take extra strength tylenol as much as i needed for the pain in the 1st and 3rd trimester and ok'd me to take ibuprofen such as advil as i needed in the 2nd trimester.
It was not the same as celebrex obviously, but it helped me sleep at night and i just always had lots of massages and warm baths to help with the pain. regardless it was worth it and i would do it again:)

i was looking for this kinda topic, as i also wonder if i could ever successfully have a baby one day.. but i don't take celebrex, i never even heard of it, i take enbrel and methotrexate for 12 years now to help with my arthritis.
i just assumed that since its an autoimmune disease and these medicine destroys immunity, which is important in successfully having a healthy baby, it won't be good. but im not sure..

anyway, seeing ASmum has done this and it turned out good, gives me some hope. congratulations for the baby by the way Smile im also interested in what kind of massage you had to help with the pain..

Thank you, I really do hope this information helps. When i first got pregnant i searched so hard to find out what i could do but could never find anything! I went through alot of stress over it.
Since my arthritis is mainly in my back and hips i just had theraputic pregnancy massages once a month or so, i was able to get a few covered under my health care plan.
I also went to physio and learned some stretches to help me strengthen my back and spent time every evening after my bath doing the stretches. I never felt 100% but all the little things I did helped.
Sometimes i used heating pads where i was the most sore as well to help relieve the pain. Smile
