I just got married 5 months ago, fist time i've lived with a guy. One minuet I can be lovey dovey with him then the next ill snap like a crazy person over something real little and dumb. I thought it was hormonal problem but then I went on birth control to see if that would help with the bad mood swings and irritability but its still the same. When I was in high school I was very depressed and use to cut myself and thought of suicide all the time and sometimes now I can get really depressed and think of suicide but not as much before but the thing that stops me is my fear of god that I will go to hell if I kill myself. I feel like a nut with my horrible mood swings, irritability, and depression. And if I am bipolar could it be from my dad who was diagnose with bipolar disorder 8 years ago, so I dont know if I could have more of a chance of being bipolar because he has it.

First of all ..Congratulations on getting married!-
if it runs in the family, yes it is always possible...These types of illnesses can be- and most of the time are- hereditary. I don't know if you are bipolar, but it sounds like you may be, and I think it's great that your asking about this and trying to find info, but you also need to get a referall to see a psychiatrist..Tell him about your history w/ cutting and depression, and your father's diagnosis, so he can give you a better/ quicker diagnosis of what he believes the problem to be...Good luck!!!

The most important thing for you to do is see a doctor. I have been depressed on and off my entire life. I went through 6 years of bulemia. When I was 26 I had two suicide attempts. I could not understand my impulses. One minute I was high on life the next minute huddled in the dark. I was admitted to an inpatient hospital where I was diagnosed as having bipolar disorder. I was diagnosed wrong early in life. I now take serveral meds and live a completely normal life and have had no sucide thoughts.
