I have heard that a head trauma, can bring on symptoms of alzheimers.

How true, if true, is this theory? What proof, if any is there? Would a person suffering a head trauma, and alzheimer symptoms followed within a short time, more than likely be a coincidence or not? What if there is a family history, or incidence of, this disease?

My husband developed vascular dementia (which has striking similarity to alzheimers disease)after 12 years previously suffering ischemic heart disease, from then on he suffered varying stages of circulatory problems and up until 3years ago he seemed to be coping ok, then he suffered a series of tia's since then he has gradually got worse with refernce to his memory, and now has no get up and go whatsoever it seems to be an effort for him to settle on any one thing I understand he may well be depressed, it seems to be no wonder when all the doctors at the hospitals seem to have given up on him, he has seen consultants, phyciatrists and has had test for epilepy, brain scans for this that but no-one ever seems to tell us anything, is there anyone else you know who is suffering simmilar circumstances and is there anything can be done for him as he is only 58 but seems to be presenting 88. Help i'm at my wits end

Janice - the cardiovascular problems that you mentioned as well as alzheimer's are all strongly associated with sleep apnea. Make sure he doesn't have it.

this may seem real stupid... But could teens ever get alziemers..... I have been under alot of stress and depression and lately I have not been able to remember things as clearly.. Sad

try and get some rest, maybe because of the stress and depression you can't sleep properly which would effect you by not remebering things clearly.

Its happened to me Smile if it continues you should seek professional help.

P.S will check to see if there have been any studies on teens and alzheimers.

Re:alzheimers
Case-control study has found a statistically significant association between head trauma and alzheimer's disease.

The early symptoms of alzheimer's disease include forgetfulness, loss of concentration, inappropriate behavior, etc.

Flax seed powder may improve nerve system health, which is important in the treatment of alzheimer’s disease. Ginkgo extract helps maintain peripheral circulation to brain. The acetyl group of acetyl l-carnitine contributes to the production of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is required for mental function, and therefore may be involved in the treatment of alzheimer ’s disease. Thiamin is essential for normal nerve function. Vitamin b12 assists maintenance of a healthy nervous system. Phosphatidylserine plays a role in neurotransmission and may support brain function and boost memory.

Please note that this is not to be taken as medical advice. If you are seeking treatment, please contact your healthcare professional.

OTHER CAUSES of "Alzheimers" before writting off grandma to alzheimers, do these two things first:
1- have her/him tested for Urinary tract infetion (believe it or not weakness, and mental changes occur with UTI's) a course of antibiotics will make an amazing change.
2- rule out PARA-THYROID disease, aka elevated calcium levels in the blood. This will make grandma/grandad act like they have alzhimers, when instead it's a totally reversable illness.
I speak from first hand experience, the diagnosis of Alzhimers is a quick label for family members who display mental changes with fatigue, argumentaiveness, or just stare into space, there is a chance it is one of these two common illnesses, both are 100 curable.
